Princess Anne once again proved her sustainable fashion credentials as she wore a 42-year-old dress to an event in London.

The 75-year-old looked radiant as she arrived at the Centenary Banquet of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners at Guildhall alongside her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.

She wore a sheer yellow gown with short sleeves, a pink rose print and a cape detail. The royal also donned a pair of white gloves and added to her look with a pair of matching heels.

Eagle-eyed social media users quickly spotted that Anne wore the very same dress during a trip to Gambia in 1984 for her role as patron with Save the Children UK.

Anne, who was 34 at the time, was photographed at the State House in Banjul, where she wore the dress with an eye-catching gold necklace and matching earrings.

Praising the Princess, fans took to X and wrote: "Still fits it like a glove, such beauty and elegance." Another wrote: "That dress is just beautiful" and another penned: "I love her even more for this. She looks terrific in her truly retro wardrobe."

Queen of Recycling

Known as the Queen of Recycling, Anne is known for her love of re-wearing past outfits.

The Princess wore a pale pink suit to Royal Ascot this year, having worn the very same ensemble to the racing event 25 years prior in 2001. She wore the two-piece look once again to Alexandra Knatchbull's 2016 wedding to Thomas Hooper in Romsey Abbey, Hampshire.

At her son Peter Phillips' wedding to Harriet Sperling earlier this month, Anne wore the same butter yellow hat she sported to her daughter Zara Tindall's christening in 1981.

Despite being the King's sister, Anne appears to rarely buy new clothes, instead looking to re-wear good quality items from the past. Now 75, she'll often bring back items she wore in her 20s and younger years.

One of her most loved looks is her festive blue coat, which she debuted back in 1983 and is still going strong more than 40 years later.

In March, she wore a floor-length coat to host the Nigerian state banquet at Windsor Castle, a staggering 57 years after she first wore it in June 1969, aged 18, for the premiere of Run Wild, Run Free.

Discussing her approach to fashion in the past, she said: "A good suit goes on forever. If it is properly made and has a classic look, you can wear it ad infinitum. The economy was bred into me."

When asked why she chooses to recycle outfits, the Princess told Vanity Fair in 2020: "Because I'm quite mean. I still try and buy materials and have them made up because I just think that's more fun. It also helps to support those who still manufacture in this country. We mustn't forget we've got those skills, and there are still places that do a fantastic job."
