Forty and fabulous certainly rings true for the glamorous Charlotte Casiraghi. The niece of Monaco's Prince Albert and granddaughter of Grace Kelly celebrated her 40th birthday on August 3. As she turns the page on her 30s, the Chanel ambassador and spokesperson leaves behind a decade that saw her publish her first solo book, La fêlure, champion her passion for reading and philosophy, welcome her second child, as well as marry and later separate from her husband.
Now, Princess Caroline's daughter is stepping into a new decade...a fresh chapter that includes a new romance.
This past April, Charlotte went public with her relationship with French novelist Nicolas Mathieu. The two were seen at the Monte Carlo Country Club Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, watching a match between Jannik Sinner and Tomas Machac. They returned to the tournament the following day, where they were joined by Nicolas' son Oscar, and Charlotte's younger sister Princess Alexandra of Hanover and her longtime boyfriend Ben-Sylvester Strautmann.
A new relationship
While the 2026 Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters marked Charlotte and Nicolas' first public appearance together, they'd been an item for more than two years by that point. In March of 2024, Paris Match published photos of the pair at a cafe in Paris. Months later in July, the author, according to Paris Match, was asked about "the gap between his left-wing convictions" and Monaco's opulence, to which he replied (translated to English): "A love story is not a football team transfer: you don't change your jersey, your salary, and your convictions overnight."

Per the outlet, she and the film producer "had been going through [a] rough patch" for some time, with Dimitri described as spending "all his time working." The former couple reportedly "had no family life," which was said to be "weighing heavily on" Charlotte.

Charlotte married Dimitri, the son of French actress Carole Bouquet, in a civil ceremony at Monaco's Prince's Palace in 2019. A religious ceremony was later held in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. Less than a year before their nuptials, Charlotte and Dimitri welcomed their first child together, son Balthazar. The philosopher has an older son, Raphaël Elmaleh, from a previous relationship with comedian Gad Elmaleh. Charlotte was 27 when she became a first-time mother in 2013.
Following her split from Dimitri, Charlotte admitted to The Telegraph that "reading a lot of female writers has helped" her "not to live by expectations and judgments." She said: "For me, it's important to be free from certain conventions."

However, she shared words from the poet Rainer Maria Rilke that she believes define "it very well": "The love of one human being for another is possibly the most difficult test for each of us. It is the highest testimony of ourselves, the supreme test for which all others are but preparations."
