US President Donald Trump was full of compliments for the royal family - back when he hosted the King and Queen at the White House earlier this year.
It has never been a secret that President Donald Trump is one of the British Royal Family's biggest fans. There have been several occasions over the past year where the president and the royals have crossed paths, often resulting in high praise from Trump.
In September 2025, the president met Princess Kate at a State Banquet at Windsor Castle. Then in late April 2026, he hosted King Charles and Queen Camilla at the White House for a packed four-day agenda, including a State Banquet and a speech to Congress by the King.
Speaking to the press, Trump praised Charles as "the greatest King" – but it seems he had even more to say without the cameras present. During the visit, he met royal author Robert Hardman in the Oval Office to discuss his biography of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Trump's comments
Writing in the Daily Mail, Hardman said the President asked after the Prince and Princess of Wales, saying about William: "William, he'll be a good King, won't he? He's very nice. A great guy. I like him."
He was also full of praise for Kate, 44, calling her "perfect" and "so great". "How's she doing?" the President was said to have asked. He went on to comment about her cancer diagnosis and bravery in her recovery: "She's so great. She was sick, people said crazy things about her, and she was so brave."

The President was seated next to her for the dinner, with the Princess radiating elegance in a couture gown by British designer Phillipa Lepley with a gold Chantilly lace overlay.
A royal farewell
© GettyThe president heaped praise on "fantastic" Charles and the UK’s historical ties with the US throughout the four-day state visit, and at one point was photographed affectionately touching the King’s knee.
He has also revealed details of personal conversations and his thoughts about the King’s thinking on major topics, such as the Iran war.
He hailed the King as "the greatest king in my book" when he said farewell to his guest as the state visit drew to a close. Charles landed in Bermuda on Friday for a three-day solo trip on the back of his visit to America.
