Prince William and Princess Kate took a BBC presenter to task over a joke he made about Princess Charlotte.
The royal couple are devoted parents to their three children - George, 13, Charlotte, 11, and eight-year-old Louis. And they were quick to call out radio host Greg James when he made a joke about their daughter's first day of school.
Princess Charlotte started her first day of big school on 5 September 2019, arriving at Thomas's Battersea in south London accompanied by her parents and her big brother, Prince George.
She looked very sweet in the school's official navy blue uniform dress, while proud mum Kate carried her bright pink pony-themed backpack.
Then aged just four and starting reception class, Charlotte showed a little shyness as the family arrived, before shaking hands with Helen Haslem, the head of the lower school.
Greg's on-air comments about the Princess
It was that moment which caught the attention of radio star Greg. He later revealed on his show that William and Kate "were listening on the morning Charlotte went to school. I saw the photo during the show and said, 'Who the hell shakes hands with their teacher on the first day?'"
© POOL/AFP via Getty ImagesA few weeks after the comments, James joined Radio 1’s Teen Heroes for a visit to Kensington Palace, where he found himself face to face with Kate and William.
"They said: 'We were listening on the morning of little Charlotte's first day, and we want to talk to you about the handshaking thing,'" James revealed of the meeting. "I went: 'Oh God, no!'
"They'd heard me saying, 'This school was so posh they had to shake hands with their teacher every day. They were not like that in my day. You were pleased if you got a smile,'" he recalled.
All is forgiven!
Greg has a playful relationship with the Prince and Princess.

Prince William jumps in the saddle
The future king jumped into the back saddle and pedalled with the BBC presenter for about 30 minutes through the South Yorkshire countryside.
At one point during the ride, they passed a group of children that James greeted before pointing behind him and shouting, "It's Prince William!"
"It's a lookalike!" William joked in response.
© Ryan Jenkinson / Kensington PalaceThen, as James spoke about how the crowd likely didn't believe him, William told him, "They think you've lost it." And when James tried to point out the prince again, William replied, "He's hallucinating," to which they both laughed.
Speaking after the ride, Greg told fellow Radio 1 hosts Sam MacGregor and Danni Diston he was still processing the surprise.
"I've got so many flies in my mouth because I've been cycling with my mouth wide open. All our jaws are on the floor from how mad that all was," he said.
And he admitted he was nervous when he realised he would be riding with the prince.
"That's the tightest I've grabbed the handlebars for the whole week," he said. "When he left, I just sat down quietly and thought, 'Fair play, he did not need to do that.'
"But I didn't kill the future king!"
