The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the world with their U-turn decision to return to the UK after six years of living in America. Many people are questioning why they want to move back now with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and Harry's close friend, journalist Bryony Gordon, has given her insider take on the matter.

Speaking on Friday's episode of This Morning, Bryony spoke about her royal friend and commenced her commentary by saying: "What I understand is that they have decided to be more of an international family."

She continued to explain the motivations behind the move, in her own words. "California is lovely. I've been to their house in Montecito. It's gorgeous. They're not letting go of it. It will remain somewhere that you can escape to… What I understand is that as lovely as California is, it's a long way away from lots of things."

Later she pointed out Harry's close bond with family members perhaps being a big draw. "When they came in July, they had a really lovely time at Althorp… with his uncle, Earl Spencer… I think that was really lovely, and I think the kids really loved it, and I think they want to be closer to that."

How will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finance their lifestyle?

When grilled on how she thought Harry and Meghan would be able to sustain this "international" lifestyle financially, she pointed out that Harry's memoir was a success among other things. "I guess that they just have lots of money, don't they? I don't know," she mused. Adding: "I don't know how they're gonna fund it, but what I do know is that the plan is, is that they're gonna be… more international."

Writing on her Substack about her surprising relationship with the Prince, Bryony once said: "We have a long working friendship, born out of a mutual passion for talking about mental health issues." And the Duke even gave her an exclusive interview for her platform. Prince Harry also appeared on Bryony's Mad Girl podcast in 2017.

Meghan's starring role

Other reports are suggesting that motivations for the Sussexes lie in Meghan's career, as she could be reigniting her acting career back in the UK.

The Duchess was famed for her starring role in US legal series Suits long before she met Prince Harry, and she has reportedly been offered a new acting role in the UK.

Despite giving up acting when she married into royalty, Meghan has kept her toe expertly dipped into television, with her own lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan and appearances on things like MasterChef Australia.

We'll be excited to see if she does land a hot new role when she makes her triumphant return across the pond.
