Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not planning an apology to the royal family, HELLO! can reveal – and it's very telling about the current status quo.
Earlier this week, the Daily Express alleged that the Sussexes hoped to apologise to the Prince and Princess of Wales over claims made in their 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, particularly that there had been "concerns and conversations" about the colour of Prince Archie's skin.
However, representatives for Harry and Meghan issued a strong denial, telling HELLO!'s Royal Editor, Emily Nash, that any rumours of an apology were "nonsense".
Speaking on the latest episode of HELLO!'s A Right Royal Podcast, which is out tomorrow, Emily said Harry and Meghan aren't exactly "refusing" to apologise, but the denial does "show how bad the situation is".
She told co-hosts Andrea Caamano and Emmy Griffiths: "The story was saying that they were going to apologise and they were going to do everything they could to reconcile with William and Catherine. Unfortunately, it's just not true.
"There's been a big denial of this story, and it was described to me as nonsense, and that has now been spun into them refusing to apologise.
"I don't think it's quite that, but it does show just how bad the situation is."
Emily added: "This is essentially a story about no change."
What was claimed about Harry and Meghan?
The Express report claimed that Harry and Meghan's "biggest regret" was their Oprah interview, after realising they had taken things "too far".
As a result, the paper claimed that the couple wanted to arrange a "sit-down apology" with William and Catherine.
However, HELLO! understands the claims are untrue and have been dismissed as "complete nonsense".
The Sussexes have now been back in the UK for more than a month after returning with Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, in August.
HELLO! previously revealed that the Duke has not reunited with his father, King Charles, since returning, though they are believed to have spoken on the phone. He has not met up with his older brother, Prince William, with whom he is not in contact.
The full episode of A Right Royal Podcast, released on Friday, discusses the latest news on the royal family, including the King and Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
This week, we take a look at Meghan's "extraordinary" afternoon out for tea with Malala at Claridge's in London, as well as Prince Harry's moving comments about grief and his mother, Princess Diana, on an episode of MasterClass.
