Prince Harry and his family are due to return to the UK by the end of August, but since stepping back as working royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been stripped of their automatic police protection.

Harry has unsuccessfully attempted to challenge rulings on this in the court, and ahead of his return, the Daily Telegraph has reported that the royal has made a private plea to Shabana Mahmood, the Home Secretary.

The publication reported that at the end of July, a risk assessment was carried out by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), but its findings have not been shared with Harry.

The lack of response has left the father-of-two feeling "numbed" over his struggle to secure the protection that would keep his family safe.

Last year, Harry lost a challenge at the Court of Appeal over his personal security arrangements while in the UK. At a two-day hearing in April, barristers for the Duke told the Court of Appeal that he was "singled out" for "inferior treatment" and that his safety, security and life are "at stake".

The Home Office, which is legally responsible for Ravec's decisions, opposed the appeal, with its lawyers telling the court that Ravec's decision was taken in a "unique set of circumstances" and that there was "no proper basis for challenging it".

Reading a summary of the decision, presiding judge Sir Geoffrey Vos said: "The Duke was in effect stepping in and out of the cohort of protection provided by Ravec. Outside the UK, he was outside the cohort, but when in the UK, his security would be considered as appropriate."

He continued: "It was impossible to say that this reasoning was illogical or inappropriate, indeed it seemed sensible."

In an interview with the BBC, Harry spoke out about the judgement. "I think that based on the judgment that the court has put out today, it clearly states that Ravec are not constrained by law," he said. "Again, I wish somebody had said that from the beginning."

Despite the security blow, Harry and his family will be moving to the UK by the end of August, with their children due to enrol at British schools.

But according to Good Schools spokesperson Grace Moody-Stuart, the sibling duo will have a lot to adjust to a UK state of mind when they start preparatory school.

The young royals will need to adapt to life as British students

"There'll be some traditions, cultural traditions that are different from how people approach food and eating food," she told HELLO!. "I think these [English] schools are quite wholesome; it's lots of fish and chips. It's not like all about granola and blackberries.

"But then again, depending on where they end up, there are certain areas of the country that are much more like that. I imagine they'll choose somewhere which won't be too much of a culture shock when perhaps some of their friends have gone."

She added: "The rigorousness of the teaching and the homework [is different]. I get the impression that's much more full-on even in a school that isn't highly academic and highly pressurised; it is more rigorous than it is in the States."
