King Frederik and Queen Mary were due to undertake a state visit to Belgium from 8 to 10 September, but the royal couple have now postponed the visit following the death of Norway's King Harald.
The former Norwegian monarch's state funeral is due to be held on 9 September, which would have happened in the middle of the visit. Frederik and Mary are due to attend the funeral, as are Belgium's King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.
In a statement, the Palace said: "In connection with the death of HM King Harald V, the state visit of Their Royal Highnesses the King and Queen to Belgium, which was to have taken place on 8 to 10 September 2026, is postponed.
"The King and Queen will attend the state funeral for King Harald in Oslo Cathedral on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Other participation from the royal family will be announced later. The state visit to Belgium will take place at a later date."
The state visit had been confirmed in July, with the visit intended to signal the strength of the alliance between Denmark and Belgium. The visit was due to start with an official reception at Place des Palais, before Frederik and Mary met with the Prime Minister of Belgium alongside the Federal Parliament and the Mayor of Brussels.
The royal couple would have also travelled to Wallonia with a group of researchers and students to learn about the Lauzelle Forest, which is an active ecological site, as well as heading to Flanders to see how the city has transformed into a social hub. Their visit would have concluded with a lunch reception on the Royal Ship Dannebrog and a cruise in the harbour.
What is happening at King Harald's funeral?
Harald's funeral is due to be held on 9 September at Oslo Cathedral, which will be conducted by the Preses of the Bishops' Conference, Olav Fykse Tveit, who will be assisted by the Bishop of Oslo, Sunniva Gylver.
Following the funeral, Harald's coffin will be transported to Akershus Fortress, where he will be privately buried. Several members of the Norwegian royal family are buried at Akershus, including Harald's parents, King Olav and Crown Princess Martha.

Announcing Harald's death, the Norwegian royal household said: "It is with deep sorrow that we announce that His Majesty King Harald passed away today. King Harald passed away peacefully at Rikshospitalet on Friday, August 28, at 06:35.

The late monarch reigned for 35 years, from 17 January 1991 until 28 August 2026.
