King Harald of Norway's state funeral is taking place next week – and the British royal family will send a representative to attend. 

The Norwegian monarch passed away last Friday at the age of 89 after 35 years on the throne, with his funeral planned for 9 September. His son is now , while Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra is heir. 

, including the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium, have already confirmed their attendance, but Britain is yet to decide on a representative.

Speaking on HELLO!'s A Right Royal Podcast, she said: "The honest answer is we don't know, there are obviously discussions going on behind the scenes. Last I heard, it hadn't been decided."

Emily added that Charles will be up in Scotland next week, so he may choose to deputise to his heir, Prince William.

"Now, quite often in a situation like this, it would fall to the heir," Emily continued. "Obviously, the King has master state concerns, like he's up in Scotland next week... when the funeral takes place. 

"So, it's not impossible for him to attend, but usually he would deputise to his heir. So, it falls on William potentially to go and pay his respects on behalf of the Royal family."

What are the British royals doing next week?

Though the British royals have not confirmed a representative, some members of the royal family already have scheduled engagements for next week. 

Prince Edward is undertaking a trip to Switzerland, while Duchess Sophie and Princess Anne also have packed schedules with various engagements.

and Queen Camilla will be heading back to Scotland, so they have a quieter week, while the Prince and Princess of Wales have not revealed any public plans yet. 

Prince William will have a busy week if he does attend the funeral, as it's also Prince George's first day at Eton College, while Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are returning to Lambrook School in Berkshire. 

Which royals are confirmed to attend King Harald's funeral?

Members of the Norwegian royal family, including Haakon, Queen Mette-Marit, Queen Sonja, Princess Astrid, Crown Princess Ingrid and Prince Sverre Magnus, are due to attend.

Belgium will be represented by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, while five members of the Danish royal family will attend: , Queen Mary, Crown Prince Christian, Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte.  

King Harald V's bier is moved from the Red Salon to the Palace Chapel on Monday. The bier is accompanied by King Harald's family and court staff through the historic halls of the Palace. The children, King Haakon, Princess Martha Louise, the grandchildren Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Prince Sverre Magnus, Marius Borg Hoiby, Maud Angelica Behn, Leah Isadora Behn and Emma Tallulah Behn in the Hall of Mirrors. Queen Mette-Marit and Queen Sonja are also in the procession.

Norway's royal family will be joined by representatives from monarchies all over the world

Japan's Emperor Naruhito will be represented at Harald's funeral by Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, and Liechtenstein is due to be represented by Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie.
