Princess Anne's quiet family heartache
Princess Anne's busy day of engagements comes just days after her son-in-law Mike Tindall announced the death of his father Philip at the age of 80.
The former England rugby player, who is married to the Princess Royal’s daughter Zara Tindall, confirmed the news on his The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast.
"Unfortunately, my dad passed away last week," he shared, describing how a minute's silence was held in his father's honour at Otley Rugby Club at the weekend.
Philip Tindall, who captained Otley Rugby Club from 1972-73, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2003.
Mike opened up about the impact of the disease back in May. "My dad is not doing great at the moment," he said. "Parkinson's is brutal and there is no let-up from how it attacks the body and changes people."
Mike has been a patron of Cure Parkinson's since 2018, helping to raise awareness and encourage donations for research into the condition, including through his annual Celebrity Golf Classic.

The visit, which ends on Thursday 1 October, will celebrate the relationship between the US and the UK, with a particular focus on shared interests around youth empowerment and opportunity, and the arts.
