The moment that the world has been counting down to finally arrived on June 11 – the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This year's tournament will make history, being that it's the largest thus far, with 48 countries competing for the glorious golden statue.

The competition will take place in stadiums across the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

During the opening ceremony and match, not only did fans get to see their favorite football players, but they also saw some familiar faces on the stage – celebrities such as ShakiraKaty Perry, Michael Buble and more were in attendance.

Ryan Reynolds

As someone entrenched in the beautiful game himself with Wrexham, it's no surprise to see Ryan Reynolds get so fired up during Canada's tournament opening match against Bosnia & Herzegovina on June 12 in Toronto.

Sofia Vergara and Owen Wilson

A celebrity link-up we did not see coming, but we're here for! Sofia Vergara and Owen Wilson also showed up for the United States' opening match against Paraguay on June 12 in LA.

Tom Brady

Not long after celebrating his oldest son Jack's high school graduation, NFL legend Tom Brady jetted over to New Jersey to catch Brazil vs. Morocco on June 13 with his daughter Vivian.

Katy Perry

The singer brought plenty of energy to the festivities as she shared a playful exchange with Tius during a pre-match entertainment segment. Wearing a dazzling silver dress that shimmered under the stadium lights, the pop superstar laughed and interacted with the youngster while holding a microphone, creating one of the most heartwarming moments of the day.

The soccer star proved once again why he remains one of football's biggest global stars as he arrived looking impeccably polished in a tailored slate-blue suit. Carrying a designer duffel bag and wheeling a luxury suitcase, the Portugal captain cut a sharp figure ahead of the tournament, effortlessly blending athlete and fashion icon as he stepped off the team transport.

David and Victoria Beckham were among the famous faces spotted in the stands, sharing a warm moment with longtime friend Tom Cruise from a VIP suite before kick-off. The former England captain and his wife looked effortlessly dapper in a tailored navy suit as they greeted the Hollywood star, with the trio appearing deep in conversation while fans gathered below. Their appearance together quickly became one of the most talked-about celebrity moments of the tournament, bringing together two of the world's most recognizable names from sport and entertainment.

The singer's appearance added a touch of star power to the ceremony as FIFA continued its celebrations across North America ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay swapped the kitchen for the football pitch as he joined a star-studded charity soccer match ahead of the tournament. Dressed in a blue team kit, the television personality appeared in great spirits as he took part in the sporting festivities alongside fellow celebrity players.

The singer-songwriter brought a high-energy style to the event. Wearing a striking red Adidas-inspired ensemble complete with a corseted silhouette, the performer thrilled fans with a dynamic live appearance.

Canadian icon Alanis Morissette delivered a powerful performance during the celebrations, taking to the pitch in a vibrant red jacket embellished with sparkling details. The Grammy-winning singer captivated the crowd as she helped mark the countdown to one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

Actor and comedian Will Arnett cut a typically suave figure as he arrived for the FIFA World Cup 2026 festivities. Dressed in a sleek monochrome ensemble layered with a taupe jacket and white trainers, the Arrested Development star brought understated Hollywood polish to the event as excitement continues to build ahead of next year's tournament.

Shakira

Shakira is to the World Cup what Mariah Carey is to Christmas. The singer has created hit anthems for the 2010 and 2014 competitions including "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," and "La La La (Brazil 2014). "Waka Waka" made the Guinness World Record for its over 15 million worldwide downloads.

The star put out the catchy song "Dai Dai" and she performed it alongside Burna Boy during the World Cup's opening ceremony. The duo will reunite to perform it again for FIFA's first-ever halftime show during the finale next month.

Shakira is not only the face of the tournament, but she's also a huge soccer fan, which means she's expected to watch from the sidelines as well.

J Balvin

J Balvin worked hand-in-hand with World Cup sponsor Coca-Cola and released a catchy song called "JUMP" for the brand.

The Colombian singer also performed during the opening ceremony, as he took the stage with a group of colorful and energetic dancers.

Andrea Boccelli and EJAE

Andrea Boccelli and EJAE performed the live debut of their song "DNA" at the opening ceremony. 

EJAE donned a gorgeous indigo and white dress with white flowers, as Andrea donned a maroon blazer over a black vest and black pants. 

The pair warmly embraced, held hands and took a bow together after sang together.  

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayak attended the opening ceremony as a presenter alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino onstage. The star is the official global ambassador for the tournament. 

She sported a red power suit and black gloves as she proudly held the trophy in her hands.

Jaime Camil also attended the opening match between Mexico and South Africa. 

He shared a behind-the-scenes look of his experience getting into the crowded arena and the high energy inside, on his Instagram stories. 

He donned a black Adidas sweatsuit with the colors of the Mexican flag on the sleeves.

Tyla also performed at the opening ceremony and she gave a sweet shout out to her African roots by donning a color-blocking dress to represent her flag, as she belted out the South African national anthem.

Becky G also paid tribute to her roots by rocking a Mexico jersey as she cheered for them during the intense match.
