Over a month after first being admitted to a hospital in Portugal for an emergency surgery, and soon being placed into a medically induced coma, Bonnie Tyler's team has shared a new update on the singer.
The Welsh star, who celebrated her 75th birthday on June 8, is now officially out of the coma, per a new statement from her team on her website, although remains "very unwell," to the point that a decision has been made to cancel or postpone the coming dates of her summer tour.
Bonnie Tyler's health
"Bonnie's family and team would like to update everyone on how she is progressing with her recovery," the statement from her spokesperson began. Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal."
"Although her condition is improving it is a slow process," it continued. "Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time."
Her summer tour
"As such we are sorry to tell everyone that we will be cancelling, or postponing until next year where possible, all of our remaining shows this summer," it added. "This will affect every current show until the end of August. At present we are still hopeful that our shows in the autumn will go ahead."
The "Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer's first scheduled show was slated for July 10 in Zwickau, Germany. 10 total shows will be affected, stretching up until the end of August, with the concerts taking place in either Germany or Austria.
"We [apologize] to all of Bonnie's fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances. We hope to see you next year instead."
Bonnie's current condition
The statement also noted that the singer is conscious enough to receive and express gratitude for the well wishes from her millions of fans worldwide.
"We would like to thank everyone for the huge outpouring of love and support from all over the world that we have received for Bonnie and want to tell you that she is aware of, and very grateful for, your good wishes," the statement read. "Bonnie's family continue to ask for privacy and promise that we will issue further updates as soon as there are significant developments to share."
Her health journey
On May 6, a statement shared on Bonnie's website confirmed that she had been admitted to a hospital in Faro, Portugal for "emergency intestinal surgery," although the procedure itself went off smoothly and the singer was said to be recovering.
However, fans were shocked to receive a second update just two days later, which read: "Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please."
They did then follow up with a fresh update confirming that while she was still "seriously ill," she remained stable, and doctors were expecting her to make "a full recovery."
