Not long after Charlize Theron faced the wrath of Matt Damon's wife, Luciana, after her naughty comment, it appears the actor upset his spouse too.

The 55-year-old revealed that his wife of 20 years was not the first person he told about his casting in Christoper Nolan's new blockbuster, The Odyssey – a decision that seemingly didn't sit well with her.

Of course, Matt admitted that he "immediately called" Luciana after he bagged the role of Odysseus, but unfortunately, she was in a Zoom meeting and couldn't pick up the phone.

That left one other very important person in Matt's life that he wanted to share the news with – his BFF and longtime collaborator Ben Affleck.

"I called Ben Affleck," he told his co-star Tom Holland (who plays his son Telemachus in the film) during an appearance on 100 Questions with Tom Simons.

"Oh, he freaked out. I was on the phone with him for about a half an hour," he added when asked about Ben's reaction.

However, Matt revealed that he soon received a text message from his disappointed wife that said: "Why didn't you tell me first?"

It turns out that Ben and Luciana were in the same building at the time, and it was the Argo actor who had run into her office to share the good news of Matt's casting.

Inside Matt and Luciana's 20-year marriage

Matt and Luciana have been married for 20 years after tying the knot in December 2005. Soon after, Matt adopted Alexia, whom Luciana welcomed with her ex-husband, Arbello Barroso, before they went on to have three more daughters: Isabella, 20, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15.

They met in 2003 in Miami while he was filming Stuck on You and she was working in a bar.

Luciana soon put Matt to work behind the bar after he was recognized by fans. "He had trained as a bartender for a film years before, so he started making drinks," she told Vogue in 2018.

"And he made me a ton of money in tips that night, because of course everyone wanted to go and see him. So it turned into a really fun night and then 15 years later here we are!"

Describing their instant connection, Luciana said: "We definitely had a connection right away; it was so easy to talk to each other, we were very comfortable [with each other], and by the end of the night, he invited me to go out with his friends."

However, being a single mom at the time, she turned him down, but that just made Matt fall for her more.

"I was like, 'I can't, I have a four-year-old daughter, I'm not going anywhere'… and that was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter," she recalled.

"He said, 'I love that you're a mom and that's your priority.' Some guys might have been different, they might think it's complicated, but for him it wasn't."

She added: "When you meet somebody that you have a connection with, that's just the person that you have a connection with, all the other stuff — the movie-star part — wasn't really a factor. It was just Matt, to me he's just Matt."
