Sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning have appeared in several films together, but it was only when they featured in the same scene in their upcoming movie that they had their first on-set "fight."

The talented duo is starring in The Nightingale, based on Kristin Hannah's novel of the same name, but things became tense between them during one uncomfortable scene.

"Right towards the end, there was a scene we were doing together, and it was this really hot room, and we were on this couch, and I was like, 'Move your leg!'" Dakota, 32, recalled on Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

"She was like, 'My leg has been here all day!' And I was like, 'No, it hasn't. Get off of me! I'm too hot. You're sweating on me'… I was like, 'Stop talking!'"

Dakota continued: "It was the only quote-unquote 'fight' — but the crew was dying because we had kept it so together the whole time. It was totally a sister tiff."

While they have both starred in films including 2001's I Am Sam and 2005's My Neighbor Totoro, where Elle, 28, played younger versions of Dakota's characters, Dakota explained that The Nightingale is the first time they have acted alongside each other.

"We were very quietly nervous about it," she said of sharing scenes for the first time. "I think we didn't really want to tell the other one how nervous we were. We were like, 'Are we going to laugh? Are we going to be able to keep it together?'

"It's the person that knows you the best in the world that you're acting with," she added. "We're super close, and we were a little silently panicked."

Elle had one rule for Dakota to follow on set – she had to leave her "older sister behavior" at home.

"I had to treat her like I would treat any other actor," Dakota explained, although she confessed that she struggled to follow Elle's rule.

Elle and Dakota's first names are Mary and Hannah

While Dakota and Elle are two of the most well-known sisters in Hollywood, neither of them goes by their first name.

The sisters were both born with different monikers from the ones they use. Dakota was born Hannah Dakota Fanning, while Elle's full name is Mary Elle Fanning.

The sisters' mom, Hannah Joy Arrington, also goes by her middle name, a tradition she passed down when her daughters were born.

Elle explained back in 2016: "My mom goes by her middle name, and my sister goes by her middle name. Her first name is Hannah. "It's possibly a Southern thing, I don't know. But since my mom goes by her middle name, we go by our middle names too."

The star added during her chat with Glamour that this at times caused confusion during her childhood. "It was awkward in school when they were calling roll call because they'd go, 'Mary? Mary?' Kids would be like, 'There’s no Mary here.' I'd awkwardly raise my hand, like, 'Uh, it's me.'"
