Sir Richard Branson shared further insight into the celebration of life of his late wife, Lady Joan Sarah Templeman Branson, who passed away in November 2025 following a back injury.

The billionaire took to Instagram to share a video from the special day, which took place in January on Necker Island, his private paradise in the Caribbean.

In the clip, Richard and his family could be seen dressed in all-white as they smiled, hugged and danced along to the tune "The Happy Song" by Waves Rush In (the stage name of Sam Branson).

"A very special family moment celebrating our beloved Joan with our kids, grandkids, family and friends," he wrote in the caption, as fans took to the comment section to share the love. "This is magical," said one, while another added: "So much love. What a lovely way to celebrate someone's life."

"Beautiful," another chimed in, while a fourth declared: "This is special! I'm sure she's smiling down on all of you! Thank you for sharing!"

Richard previously opened up about his family's decision to throw a joyous celebration of life for Joan, who passed away aged 80.

"My family and I have always believed in celebrating people's lives, while they are with us and after they are gone," he shared on Instagram

"That is exactly what we did for Joan. We held a beautiful celebration on Necker Island. There were stories, songs, laughter, and tears, all in honor of the most incredible partner, mom, grandmother, and friend."

Richard and Joan were together for almost 50 years

Richard and Joan met in 1976, and the pair went on to marry 13 years later on Necker Island. Together they welcomed kids Clare Sarah – who passed away at just four days old – and later Holly and Sam. Joan passed away on November 24, 2025, due to a blood clot stemming from a back injury.

"Heartbroken to share that Joan, my wife and partner for 50 years, has passed away," Richard announced at the time. "She was the most wonderful mom and grandmom our kids and grandkids could have ever wished for. She was my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world. Love you forever, Joan."

At a pre-inquest hearing in 2026, it came to light that a blood clot had formed in Joan following a fall-induced back injury two weeks before her death.

The inquest, which will be held in September, will examine if Joan's death could have been prevented by being prescribed blood thinners. The family is not looking to place blame on anyone, as Holly confirmed at the hearing.

Holly thanked her mother's medical team at the pre-inquest hearing

"I believe mom had great care. The doctors saved her life three years ago, giving us all three more years together," she said. "We just want to help other families if there are any lessons to be learned."

Joan had a long history of blood clots and was even operated on in 2018 to prevent any clots traveling to her lungs.
