Shirley MacLaine was pictured enjoying life at 92 as she stepped out for a relaxed lunch at Kirsty's in Malibu on Friday.
The legendary actress, whose extraordinary career has spanned more than seven decades, was photographed at one of her favorite local restaurants, looking comfortable in a simple black T-shirt, grey sweatpants and black slip-on shoes.
Shirley was accompanied by a female companion, whose arm she held as she carefully made her way down a step from the restaurant's outdoor terrace.
The Terms of Endearment star appeared relaxed during the low-key outing, which comes just four months after she celebrated her 92nd birthday on April 24.
The Academy Award winner has largely retreated from the Hollywood spotlight in recent years, but she remains active and has been spotted enjoying lunches around Malibu on several occasions this year. She was photographed at Nobu in January and enjoyed another sunny lunch outing shortly before her birthday in April.
Shirley MacLaine makes surprise appearance at 92
In fact, fans received a welcome glimpse of Shirley just days ago when she recorded a rare video message for New York's Southampton Playhouse ahead of a screening of her 1969 musical Sweet Charity.
"Hi Southampton Playhouse, wish I could be with you," she told moviegoers in the video shared on August 17.
"I would like to see Sweet Charity again. While you're watching it, remember how hard we worked."
And proving her famous sense of humor hasn't deserted her, Shirley couldn't resist poking fun at the Bob Fosse-directed movie's disappointing original box office performance.
"Between you and me it didn't do very well, so I hope you guys like it," she quipped.
The film, in which Shirley starred as eternally optimistic dancer Charity Hope Valentine, has gone on to become a much-loved part of her extensive filmography.
Shirley's secret to staying healthy in her 90s
Shirley has previously spoken candidly about ageing and why she believes her childhood passion for dance helped give her the foundations for such a long and active life.
When she turned 90 in 2024, the actress told People that she was "really healthy" and credited dance, rather than simply good genes, with contributing to her longevity.
Shirley began dancing when she was just three years old and continued until she was 67, explaining that it gave her much more than physical fitness.
"I started my dance training at age three and stopped at about 67," she said. "It taught me discipline, loving music, working with people and dealing with pain."
She has also spoken about the importance of enjoying life on her own terms. "I have what I consider just a perfect life," she previously told People, adding that she eats and sleeps when she wants and spends plenty of time surrounded by nature and animals.
At 90, she also said she was grateful for her health and friendships and still relished the opportunity to work when the right project came along.
Shirley MacLaine isn't finished with Hollywood
Despite living a considerably quieter life these days, Shirley has never formally closed the door on acting. Her most recent television appearance came in 2022, when she memorably joined the second season of Only Murders in the Building. The same year, she appeared alongside Peter Dinklage in American Dreamer.
She was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural Dance Hall of Fame ceremony in 2025, with the award itself named in her honor.
And Shirley's creative life extends far beyond acting. The Oscar winner is also a prolific author, having written numerous books exploring everything from Hollywood to spirituality and her famously unconventional beliefs.
Her longevity, meanwhile, seems to amuse Shirley almost as much as it impresses her fans. Speaking previously about continuing to act as she grew older, she joked that audiences "just can't believe that I'm coming up one more time."
"As long as I can remember my lines and be with it and be comfortable with the character, I'm fine with working until I just drop dead or something," she added.
