He's grown from a skit stalwart to leading man status over the course of decades-long fame, but who knew him as regular old Chevy – or, rather, Cornelius Crane Chase...

Chevy Chase's older brother Edward worked as a lawyer

Not much is known about Chevy's older brother, Edward. Commonly referred to as Ned Jr, he has lived most of his life out of the spotlight. 

However, In 1982, The New York Times celebrated Edward's marriage to Joan Gregory. At the time, Edward was working as a lawyer in New York Friedman & Eisenstein. He reportedly graduated from Harvard College and University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Cynthia Chase is the sister of actor Chevy Chase

Where her brother succeeded in comedy, Cynthia's talents in the world of academia are more than obvious, She was named valedictorian at Princeton University and went on to study at Yale for her Ph.D. 

She soon met and fell for visiting Oxford professor Jonathan Culler. As of 2009, Dr Chase-Culler was working as a professor of English and comparative literature at Cornell. Her son, who she shares with husband Jonathan, was then studying at Brown.

Pamela 'Pam' Cederquist has also found Hollywood success

Chevy's half-sister Pamela Cederquist has shared his success in the entertainment industry, but prefers to be behind the scenes, rather than taking on a starring role.

She's worked as a second assistant director on Space Jam and Law & Order as well as producing projects like Stormchaser and Real Stories of the Donut Men

Chevy Chase also has a half-brother

John Cederquist

Chevy also has a half-brother, John Cederquist, who is the full sibling of Pamela Cederquist. John and Pam were born to Chevy's mother Cathalene and step-father John.

In the documentary I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not, the younger John made an appearance in support of his half-brother, detailing his father's physical violence towards his children.

Chevy Chase has found fame on the big screen and as a saturday night regular

Star-studded career

Chevy is best known for hit comedies like National Lampoon's Vacation and an original run on Saturday Night Live. 

He's been nominated for five Primetime Emmy awards and won three. Chevy has also been inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame, thanks to his work on SNL.

Chevy has said 'I do' three times

Married life

Chevy has tied the knot three times. He first wed Susan Hewitt in 1973, divorcing three years later in 1976. 

Later that same year, he wed Jacqueline Carlin but the pair separated in 1980. Two years later he married Jayni Luke on 19 June 1982 and they've remained together ever since.

Chevy is a father of four, sharing three daughters with his wife Jayni

His own family legacy

As well as four siblings to call his own, Chevy is a father of four. He and wife Jayni share three daughters, Emily, Caley and Cydney, and he also has a son, Bryan from a previous relationship.

Cydney works as a musician, while Caley is a theatre director and actress, and Emily works in wildlife conservation. His son, Bryan, appeared in two instalments of The Toxic Avenger film franchise.

Chevy is still working on screen and has several upcoming projects

What's he up to now?

Chevy is still working on screen today, with recent credits including The Christmas Letter (2024) and Glisten and the Merry Mission (2023). 

He has several projects in the works including horror flick CATnip and comedy movie The Ogilvy Fortune.
