Russell Crowe showcased his dramatic weight-loss transformation as he enjoyed a rare family appearance at the Venice Film Festival.

The Gladiator star, 62, was joined by his long-term girlfriend, Britney Theriot, 42, and his youngest son, Tennyson, 20, at the premiere of his self-directed documentary, What Love Builds, on Friday.

Looking noticeably slimmer, Russell cut an elegant figure in a black dinner suit featuring satin lapels, which he paired with an open-neck white shirt and polished black shoes.

The Oscar winner wore his long hair swept back into a low ponytail, while his full silver beard completed his distinguished red-carpet look.

Britney looked glamorous in a plunging black halterneck gown with a figure-skimming silhouette. She completed her look with sparkling drop earrings, a diamond bracelet and pointed black heels, while Russell affectionately wrapped an arm around her waist as they posed for photographers.

Tennyson coordinated with his father in a black suit, patterned tie and crisp white shirt, adding a distinctive silver star pendant. The father and son appeared relaxed together and shared a warm exchange in front of the cameras.

The family outing marked the premiere of What Love Builds, a 99-minute documentary exploring Russell's lifelong relationship with acting, music and live performance.

"Everything in my life as a creative person begins with music," Russell explained in his official director's statement for the film.

Russell Crowe's 25kg weight-loss transformation

Russell's slimmer appearance follows his revelation that he had lost more than 25kg after gaining weight to portray Nazi leader Hermann Göring in the historical drama Nuremberg.

During a November 2025 appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Russell revealed: "I was 126 kilos when I finished Nuremberg. I'm 100.9 right now."

The actor explained that he had adopted a more measured approach to his health, focusing on sustainable changes rather than throwing himself into an extreme training regime that would be difficult to maintain.

Russell said treatments for longstanding joint pain had made it easier for him to exercise, while reducing his alcohol intake had also played an important part in his transformation. "I try not to have the casual drinks now," he said, explaining that he preferred to save a glass of wine for an occasion rather than drinking out of habit.

Although several online reports have attached specific diets to Russell's transformation, the actor has not publicly outlined a detailed eating plan. His own account focused on cutting back on alcohol, gradually returning to exercise and making changes he could sustain in the long term.

Russell Crowe's relationship with Britney Theriot

Russell and Britney were first romantically linked in 2020 before making their red-carpet debut as a couple in Rome in October 2022.

The pair have since attended a string of major events together, including Wimbledon and film premieres, although they generally keep their relationship away from the spotlight.

Russell addressed their romance during a filmed interview with 60 Minutes Australia in November 2025, when he firmly dismissed speculation that the couple were preparing to marry.

Speaking warmly about their bond, he said: "We are very, very good friends, and we have a wonderful relationship." He explained that the couple enjoy travelling and spending their time together, adding: "We're very happy, man. It's a very positive life."

Russell Crowe's bond with sons Charles and Tennyson

Russell shares Tennyson and his older son, Charles, 22, with his former wife, Australian singer and actress Danielle Spencer. Russell and Danielle married in 2003, separated in 2012 and finalised their divorce in 2018.

Both sons have largely remained outside the public eye, making Tennyson's appearance alongside his father in Venice particularly special.

Russell offered another rare glimpse of the pair's close relationship in July when he shared a gym photograph showing them flexing their muscles together in celebration of Tennyson's milestone birthday.

"20 years ago today, at 7 minutes to 7am, this amazing young man arrived in our lives. Happy Birthday Tenny," he wrote in the public post.

During the Venice press conference for What Love Builds, Russell revealed that he increasingly plans his time around being near his children in Europe.

"My sons and I call it the Euro Dad project," he said, explaining that he expects to choose spending time where his sons are over accepting additional film work as he gets older.

Reflecting on why those moments now feel particularly precious, Russell added: "I am starting to have those thoughts about how many summers I really may have."
