Tom Cruise gave fans plenty to talk about with his latest magazine cover, posing with his shirt unbuttoned in a striking black-and-white photograph for GQ.

The 64-year-old actor showed off his defined torso in the portrait, wearing faded jeans, a dark belt and an open shirt with contrasting stitching. With one hand resting against his waistband and the other pushed through his tousled hair, Tom looked straight into the camera.

The photograph was shared in a joint Instagram post by the actor and the magazine, and followers were quick to remark on his youthful appearance."He looks like he's in his 40s," one wrote, attracting thousands of likes. Another added: "Aging like fine wine."

"Got to give him credit! He has IT!" a third commented, while another admirer declared: "Always gotta love Tom."

Photographed by Mario Sorrenti, the shoot marked Tom's first GQ cover in more than two decades. His casually unbuttoned shirt and rolled sleeves complemented the understated styling, with the cover introducing its subject simply as "Tom."

The photographs accompanied a rare interview ahead of Tom's film Digger, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, in which he played an oil magnate.

Speaking to GQ, Tom reflected on his dedication to acting, the preparation behind his performances and his determination to continue challenging himself. "Look, I think you could look at my life and go: I like standing on the edge of a cliff physically and metaphorically. Meaning, I look at life as an adventure, and I always have, my whole life. I want to understand people," he said.

"I want to understand life and cultures. We’re looking at life. I wonder: Who are those people? How do they feel? Do they think the way I do? Do they laugh at the same thing? How do I connect with them? And I didn’t want to just be a tourist. I wanted to go make movies there because I also find you really get to know people when you create with them."

Tom Cruise's approach to fitness

Asked by Men's Health how he stayed young, Tom described an exercise routine that extended far beyond lifting weights.

"Sea-kayaking, caving ... fencing, treadmill, weights ... rock-climbing, hiking ... I jog ... I do so many different activities," he said.

Tom also spoke candidly about the food that fuelled one particularly strenuous performance. In a May 2025 interview with People, he explained how he prepared for the wing-walking sequence in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, describing the energy required to work in cold conditions at altitude.

"I actually eat a massive breakfast," he told the publication. "I'll eat, like, sausage and almost a dozen eggs and bacon and toast and coffee and fluids."

What Tom Cruise said about getting older

Tom's ambitions remained equally energetic when he discussed the future of his career. At the New York premiere of The Final Reckoning in May 2025, he told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted to keep making films into his 100s. The declaration extended his earlier hope of working into his 80s.

He also made clear that his enthusiasm reached beyond action films, with drama and comedy featuring in his plans. "I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films ... I'm excited," he told the outlet.
