Michael Douglas just revealed a major secret. The two-time Oscar winning actor opened up about his secret "lover," 40 years later.

In his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, the Wall Street actor detailed his romantic relationship with his Romancing the Stone co-star Kathleen Turner. The two filmed the 1984 adventure movie in Mexico and fell for each other while Michael was separated from his then-wife Diandra Douglas.

"Kathleen was smart, funny, and sexy with a deep, sultry voice that became her signature. I instantly liked her, and we were immediately attracted to each other," Michael wrote in his memoir.

"Things at home were in a bad place. Diandra and I were both having extramarital affairs, including my recent romance with Diane Thomas [Romancing the Stone's screenwriter]." The actor who is now married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, went on: "I left for Mexico still technically married, but separated."

"The chemistry I had with Kathleen Turner was so strong, audiences have been certain for years that we were in a relationship together while making the film," Michael shared. "We both denied it through Romancing The Stone, Jewel of the Nile, War of the Roses, and even while doing press a few years ago for The Kominsky Method."

Michael added that he and Kathleen shared an official storyline publicly – that they had "amazing chemistry" and were both "tempted," but that nothing between them ever happened. "That was a lie," he wrote.

Inside Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner's relationship

The Fatal Attraction actor wrote: "Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship. It wasn't a fly-by night affair; it grew naturally from how closely we were working together, how much pressure we were under, how much we respected and cared for one another, and how attracted we were to each other. Like every other guy in the world at the time, I was knocked sideways by Kathleen…"

While on set in Mexico, Michael and Kathleen would go out to dinner and sneak into each other's hotel room after the rest of the cast and crew were asleep. He claimed that everyone was unaware of their connection, even their co-star Danny DeVito.

But, the magic of their love story came to a crashing halt midway through filming Romancing the Stone when Diandra brought their son Cameron to Mexico. "I was so happy to have my son there, but their arrival created another problem," Michael detailed. "While Bob [Zemeckis] and Danny had no clue about my affair with Kathleen, Diandra grew suspicious."

Kathleen didn't want to interfere in the couple's marital issues and Michael got back together with Diandra.

Where is Kathleen Turner today?

The same year Romancing the Stone premiered, Kathleen tied the knot with real estate entrepreneur Jay Weiss. The two welcomed their daughter Rachel in 1987. After 23 years of marriage, Kathleen and Jay divorced, but the actress still calls him her best friend.
