Meet Steven Spielberg's 7 children - including actor son and the daughter following in his footsteps

Family is more than just blood: Steven Spielberg welcomed his oldest daughter Jessica Capshaw into the Spielberg family on his marriage to Kate Capshaw, who gave birth to Jessica in 1976 during her first marriage. Jessica first appeared on screen in 1997 feature The Locusts alongside her actress mother. Her own mainstream fame arrived in 2009 with a star role in Grey's Anatomy, playing pediatric surgeon Arizona Robbins. Jessica was originally cast for a short character arc but became a series regular in the show's sixth season as a love interest for Sara Ramirez's Callie Torres. 

Jessica found her own love story off screen with Christopher Gavigan, co-founder of the Honest Company and Prima skincare founder, tying the knot in 2004. They share four children together, son Luke and daughters Eva, Poppy and Josephine. After leaving her Grey's Anatomy role behind, the actress has since appeared in Netflix rom-com Holidate and 9-1-1: Nashville. 

Steven welcomed his first son, Max, with actress Amy Irving in 1985. Max has pursued his own path into the entertainment industry, working as a graphic designer and recieving art department credits on video games such as Assassin's Creed: Unity and as a multi-hyphenate talent on 2012 short film Snap Shot, as the writer, editor, director and producer.

He started dating beauty influencer Valerie LaChance in 2011 and they have since tied the knot, saying "I do" on 19 December 2014.

Born on 21 August 1988, Theo Speilberg was adopted by Kate Capshaw prior to her and Steven's marriage in 1991, with the director subsequently adopting Theo as well. Theo has followed a different star path, away from the screen, as a musician, starting a band with his younger sister Sasha.

Their band Wardell, his middle name and their mother's nickname, released their first single in 2011, titled 'Opossum'. In 2013, they were reportedly signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation. Theo takes charge of the instrumentals while Sasha sings, and it's clearly a winning combination with the band opening for the likes of Vampire Weekend, Grimes and Haim.

Steven and wife Kate welcomed daughter Sasha in 1990. She studied at Brown University between 2008 and 2011, and has since found musical success with brother Theo as well as releasing solo projects under the name Buzzy Lee.

Sasha has taken on several small acting appearances in projects like Licorice Pizza, Love Life and Sherman's Showcase. In 2022, Sasha married designer Harry McNally, the son of British restaurateur Keith McNally.

Sawyer, born on 10 March 1992, has found success as an actor. He made his debut on the silver screen in 2021 horror film Honeydew, cast as aspiring actor Sam who goes on an ill-fated camping trip with his girlfriend Rylie. His big-screen career has come as something of a surprise, with Sawyer telling Tatler he intended to study engineering or open a restaurant when a love of theatre took him by surprise.

It was only a few years prior to his debut that Sawyer decided he wanted to try his hand at film acting. Fortunately, the theatre served him well as it set Sawyer on the path to meeting his wife Raye while performing. The couple now share one daughter.

Steven and his wife Kate adopted Mikaela at birth on February 28 1996. In 2020, she reportedly announced she was pursuing a career as a dancer in the adult entertainment industry and that, while nervous about telling her parents, they stood by her decision.

Mikaela told The Sun:  “My safety has always been a number one priority for them. I’m doing this, not out of an urge to hurt anybody or be spiteful about it, I’m doing this because I want to honor my body in a way that’s lucrative."

The famed director's youngest child Destry Allyn Speilberg was born on 1 December 1996 and has followed in her father's footsteps, starting out in small acting roles before working her way into a directorial career.

She directed 2022 short film Let Met Go (The Right Way) which premiered at the Tribeca Festival and 2024 thriller Please Don't Feed the Children, starring Michelle Dockery and Giancarlo Esposito. Destry recently tied the knot with real estate agent Jake Herskowitz, saying "I do" on 26 September.
