Andy Cohen sought advice from fellow television star Kelly Ripa after he was called out for underpaying his babysitter. Jeff Lewis previously branded the star as "cheap" for paying his sitter $70 for approximately two hours of work.
With a rate of $30 per hour, Andy gave his 23-year-old employee a sum of $70 for two hours and 15 minutes of work. "That sounds cheap to me. Especially from someone with your money," Jeff said to Andy during an episode of Radio Andy. "Did that even cover the cab?" he joked. Jeff explained that he would have paid $100 for the service and that he pays his own babysitter $37 per hour.
Still Flipping Out star later revealed that Andy contacted his close friends following the comments to ask them about their pay rates. "He was defensive. He was like texting Kelly Ripa and like, 'What do you pay your babysitter?'" Jeff shared on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast.
"He was texting all his famous friends. I want to say like he texted three people, at least three people live on the radio. Like, this is such a big deal to him."
Jeff continued: "I have an idea of the kind of money that Andy makes, right? I think $30 an hour is on the low end, especially for two kids."
Andy has two kids – Ben and Lucy – who he welcomed via surrogate. In 2023, the Watch What Happens Live! host opened up to CBS News about parenting, saying: "I think my priorities have completely shifted. I think my sense of accomplishment has totally changed. And even just getting your kids breakfast and getting them out to school, when I drop him off at school, I'm like, 'You did it, dude! That was a rough two-and-a-half hours, you know?'"
Kelly Ripa's babysitter
Kelly and Mark Consuelos tied the knot in 1996, when they eloped in Las Vegas a year after meeting on the set of the soap opera All My Children. They went on to welcome kids Michael, Lola, and Joaquin together.
During an episode of LIVE on May 19, the host recalled a story about leaving Mark at home with the kids while she filmed a show in a different state. "We were shooting this show in Chicago. Joaquin was like 6 months old, and I hired babysitters to work in eight-hour shifts, like nurses," she shared.
Kelly explained that the last babysitter was still on shift when she returned home a few days later. "She said to me, 'You can’t die, because he doesn’t know where anything is,'" she recalled. "So, I was like, ‘Good note. Oh, my god. I can’t die!'"
