Julia Louis-Dreyfus has unveiled a dramatic new look as she prepares to celebrate a major milestone in her glittering career.

The 65-year-old actress, best known for playing Elaine Benes in Seinfeld, has traded her signature dark brunette locks for a chic, chin-length gray bob as she makes her Broadway debut in Other Desert Cities.

The actress gave fans a glimpse of her transformation in a backstage Instagram selfie with co-star Allison Janney, 66.

"Doubling down on selfies on @desertcitiesbway with @allisonbjanney," she captioned the playful photographs, which captured the two actresses preparing for their performances.

Despite a hugely successful television and film career spanning more than four decades, Other Desert Cities marks Julia's first appearance on Broadway.

She stars alongside an impressive ensemble cast, including Ed Harris, Allison Janney, Lily Rabe and Stranger Things star Joe Keery, who is also making his Broadway debut.

Set in Palm Springs during Christmas 2004, the play follows a wealthy, politically connected family whose carefully guarded secrets threaten to unravel when their daughter returns home with a revealing memoir.

Julia plays Polly, a fiercely conservative mother determined to protect her family's reputation, while Ed portrays her husband, Lyman.

The production, directed by John Benjamin Hickey, began previews on September 29 and is scheduled to run until January 17, 2027.

Speaking to Vogue about the role, Julia explained that she was familiar with women like her character, who takes great pride in her immaculate appearance.

"This is a woman who has her hair done a couple times a week," she said, adding: "I know these women."

The actress also admitted she had been longing to return to the stage after spending so many years working in television.

The exciting new chapter comes after a difficult period in Julia's personal life.

The actress and her husband, Brad Hall, lost their longtime Pacific Palisades home in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025.

The couple, who have been married since 1987 and share two adult sons, Henry and Charlie, subsequently relocated to Santa Barbara.

However, Julia recently revealed that she had also purchased an apartment in New York City, with a little help from her close friend, celebrity chef Ina Garten.

Speaking on Ina's Happy Hour podcast, the actress explained that losing her home of more than three decades had prompted her to reconsider where she wanted to live.

"I think we need a home-home in New York now because I can't start over in L.A.," she recalled telling her husband.

In a remarkable coincidence, Julia eventually purchased an apartment in the same building where her late father once lived.
