Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos may boast star status, but according to their three kids, they are "not cool". However, that opinion changed when Michal, Lola, and Joaquin found out that their parents were a firm favorite of a huge A-lister. The couple recalled an amusing story involving their children during the October 21 episode of Live!.
According to the hosts, when their children were teenagers, they "were mercilessly making fun of us in front of their friends."
"We never dropped it on them that we were in a Jay-Z video," said Mark. "We did it in front of their friends." Kelly and Mark starred in 2003’s "Change Clothes" video, which also featured Pharrell Williams. But, this wasn't the only time the couple were connected with the famous rapper.
Last year, Mark attended a Knicks game, which he described as "one of the championship games," with his son, Joaquin. "I thought it’d be, like, a good father-son hangout thing. He always wants to be, like, eight feet away from me," shared Mark.
The couple's youngest child was "embarrassed of his dad" as they entered the VIP entrance for the game – until Mark spoke to the rapper. "He turns around, and he sees me, and he goes, 'Hey man'," recalled Mark.
Mark then introduced his son to Jay-Z. "He gives me a hug, and a handshake, and then I look back at Joaquin," he recalled. "They come home from the game," added Kelly. {I’m asleep. The door bursts open, Joaquin flies in. 'Did you know Dad knows Jay-Z?' I go, 'I told you we were in a Jay-Z video.' He goes, 'I thought you were lying.'"
"The internet exists, guys. Google," said Kelly.
Family life
Kelly and Mark tied the knot in 1996, when they eloped in Las Vegas a year after meeting on the set of the soap opera All My Children. They went on to welcome kids Michael, Lola, and Joaquin together.
Michael, the couple's eldest son, currently lives in Brooklyn while working on the production side for Bravo's The Real Housewives of New York and The Real Housewives of New Jersey and has also worked as a production assistant on the sitcom The Goldbergs.
Lola is currently pursuing a career in music in London. Meanwhile, Joaquin, who is represented by CAA & Untitled, portrays the character Colby in Hulu’s pilot Foster Dade, adapted from Nash Jenkins’ novel Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos.
