More members of the Reagan family are making their way over to Boston Blue from the original Blue Bloods.

Will Estes' return as Jamie Reagan

It will mark Jamie and Danny's first on-screen appearance together since the original show came to an end in 2024. And Donnie Wahlberg, 57, couldn't be more thrilled to reunite with his on-screen brother, 48.

The episode's official logline says of the reunion: "Jamie Reagan's visit to Boston takes an unexpected turn when he and Danny are drawn into a diamond heist linked to a violent family feud, forcing the brothers to confront lingering tensions of their own."

Donnie Wahlberg's thoughts on Will's comeback

However, there was definitely no such lingering tension between Donnie and Jamie, with the former telling TVLine: "Man, what a wonderful experience that was for both of us... to reconnect."

"We played all this history, but we have history off screen, too, and we haven't spoken in a while," dubbing it "healing" and an emotional experience. "Whenever somebody from Blue Bloods comes aboard, something very special happens on screen and off."

"Our cast and crew are so receptive to them and so appreciative of them, and they're appreciative back," he continued, explaining that while he believes Boston Blue has now found its own legs and can stand tall as an individual show, the return of fan favorite characters still adds a touch more.

"I don't think Boston Blue needs validation from Blue Bloods, but the fact that these characters from Blue Bloods offer so much to Boston Blue, it does mean a lot. I can see how much it means to all of us in the cast," the New Kids on the Block singer added.

Previously, one of the showrunners, Brandon Sonnier, also spoke with the outlet about what headspace Jamie will be in upon his return. "He is embracing a new role in his [professional] life, just like he's embracing the role of father in his life."

It was revealed in the spin-off's first season that Jamie and his wife, Edit "Eddie" Janko-Reagan, played by Vanessa Ray, had welcomed a son together.

The Blue Bloods cast's appearances in Boston Blue

Jamie is just the latest member of the Blue Bloods cast to return, with others including Erin Reagan (played by Bridget Moynahan), Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez).

As for the one Reagan family member that fans have been requesting to see back the most, Tom Selleck, the showrunners previously told the publication that it really would depend on creating the storyline that makes the comeback worth the wait and scheduling.

"It's got to be the right story," Brandon explained. "That's sort of the thing is we don't ever want to do it just for the sake of doing it. The right story that brings Frank into the world of Boston Blue will present itself, and when it does, it's going to be an episode of television that we can only dream to write."
