In January 2026, Keith's divorce from his wife of nearly 20 years, Nicole Kidman, was finalized. The couple tied the knot in 2006, with news of their separation going public in September 2025.

Since then, the musician has maintained a lower public profile, focusing his efforts instead on releasing new music and performing around the world.

Keith's words on family

Speaking with the Associated Press in June 2026, coinciding with the release of his latest album Flow State, Keith spoke extensively about the idea of making a yacht rock record of mostly covers.

However, he also specifically pointed out that the album, his first released since his split, came at a particularly poignant and life-changing time for him, one that highlighted his own state of mind.

He called the album an "unexpected group of songs and a very unexpected record to find me when it found me, because it was very much a 180 of what was going on at the time," saying it was really just about "constant movement."

Touching briefly on his family life, which includes his ex-wife and their two teen daughters, Sunday and Faith, he continued: "It was a challenging record to make at the same time, for something that kind of sounds so effortless."

"It was quite a juxtaposition at the time. But I'm really grateful for the way that the record turned out and obviously I'm very, very protective of my family and I've remained that way the whole time."

Keith's words on life after his divorce from Nicole

In his first interview since the divorce, speaking with fellow guitarist Dann Huff, Keith spoke about wanting to "simplify" his life in this new stage. "And just being aware that I'm aware," he added. "That I'm none of the voices in my head — I'm just the one listening. Because it simplifies everything and brings it right back to a very calm, steady, grounded place."

Speaking of how he wanted to "introduce" himself to the world each day, he continued: "So how do you do it in the morning? That's where I'm at. Simplifying. Simplifying is my journey this year."

What Keith's family has said since the divorce

While Nicole has detailed the difficult period that followed after her split from Keith, his daughters haven't. Over the past year, the former couple's older daughter Sunday Rose, 18, has focused more so on her modeling career and her final year of high school.

"...obviously I'm very, very protective of my family and I've remained that way the whole time."

She did recently tell Vogue Germany that she understood the privilege she came from as the daughter of famous parents. "I'm very aware that I'm being given opportunities that not everyone can have, and I'm truly grateful to be able to take advantage of them. So when I'm at work, I make sure to always give my best, never come to work with a negative attitude, no matter how tired or jet-lagged I may be, and treat everyone with respect."
