A flower-filled hotel suite, expensive trinkets scattered here and there, Armani gowns delivered to the door... Dawson's Creek actress Katie Holmes is discovering all the joys of stepping out with an experienced beau while she spends a few days in Rome with Tom Cruise.
The surprise romance, confirmed this week by the twosome's respective publicists, is flourishing in the Italian city, where Tom is due to pick up the prestigious David Di Donatello lifetime achievement award on Friday.
Wearing outsize shades and grins, the 42-year-old actor and Katie, 26, strolled hand-in-hand round Rome and were delighted to pose for the cameras.
And Katie, who has previously been engaged to actor Chris Klein and dated Josh Hartnett, appears to be relishing the attentions of the charismatic and famously generous Hollywood heavyweight.
Not shy about showing the colour of his money, Tom took the £2,000-a-night presidential suite at the luxury Hasler Hotel; then he asked for it to be filled with as many roses as could be provided; then he popped some little jewellery treats into it; and finally, he ordered dozens of Armani outfits to be sent round so that Katie could pick out what she'd like to wear to the presentation gala.
