Most experts agree that hair grows best when we follow a healthy diet.

Quite simply, healthy eating is good not just for our bodily health, but also for our hair. Our grandmothers weren't far wrong when they insisted we ate our greens to make our locks shine: a diet that is rich in fruit and vegetables will encourage stronger, healthier hair growth.

  • Folic acid and vitamin B12 both encourage healthy, shiny hair that is flexible and strong and doesn't break or split. That means a heads up to lentils, spinach, asparagus, lettuce, orange juice and eggs.
  • Potassium, one of the most common minerals in the human body, also helps keep our locks in tip-top condition. Potassium is to be found in bananas and other fruit, pulses (lentils, chick peas and beans) and in brewer's yeast.
