The Prince of Wales visited a Buddhist temple in west London this week to meet volunteers who have been working round the clock to send clothes, toys, food and medical supplies to areas of Sri Lanka devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami.

Welcomed by senior monk Pandith M Vajiragnana, Charles responded with a namaste, a traditional Asian gesture of greeting.

It was a busy day for the Queen's eldest son, who also visited the Crisis Skylight centre, an activity base where homeless people can participate in workshops ranging from bicycle repair to the performing arts.

While there, keen water colourist Charles chatted to fellow artist Khristian Begue. Khristian, who lives rough on the capital's streets, apparently gave the Prince some tips on the use of acrylic paint, while Charles reciprocated with advice on painting in watercolours.
