Reese Witherspoon, 47, and her estranged husband Jim Toth, 52, signed a prenup in 2011, but what does that mean?

The Big Little Lies actress and the Hollywood agent – who are parents to 10-year-old son Tennessee – got married in a low-key ceremony at her Californian ranch on March 26, 2011 following a whirlwind romance. It marked Reese's second marriage, as she previously wed Ryan Phillippe in June 1999 and welcomed children Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19, before splitting in October 2006.

While Reese reportedly did not have a prenup for her first marriage, she did put one in place ahead of exchanging vows with Jim. Reese has confirmed she will submit their prenup, which provides "adequate and sufficient provisions" for their assets and debts, to the judge.

Like most celebrities, the exact details of their assets have not been revealed, but according to Forbes, Reese is worth around $116 million, which includes around $20 million from 10 episodes of The Morning Show.

The Hello Sunshine founder also sold a majority stake in her production company in August 2021 - a deal which reportedly valued the company at $900 million. Meanwhile, Jim is worth about $20 million

Some of their shared assets may include their family homes, and the profits from the properties they have flipped in recent years.

For example, the couple purchased a seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home in Brentwood, Los Angeles for $15.9million in 2020, before putting it on the market for $25 million in March 2022. It sold at the reduced price of $21.5million two months later.

The pair also shared a beautiful five-bedroom, five-bathroom home in Pacific Palisades in the past. They purchased it for $12.7million in 2014 but sold it in 2020 for $17million. See inside one of her properties below...

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Reese and Jim listed "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their divorce.

They announced their split just days before celebrating their twelfth wedding anniversary and Reese's birthday.

Reese took to Instagram to share a statement which read: "It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce.

"We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together. Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter."
