Although to date they have kept overt demonstrations of affection to a minimum, Heather Mills and Sir Paul McCartney were a picture of loving togetherness over the weekend as they enjoyed a day out on a Malibu beach. The couple, who are particularly sensitive to the feelings of the former Beatle's children following the death of their mother Linda three years ago, were all tender caresses and kisses as they relaxed in the sunshine.

Paul is in LA to work on his latest album Blues Skies – the title of which refers to his emergence from the painful period following Linda’s death from breast cancer in Los Angeles. He and Heather, both sporting Casio wrist cameras which 33-year-old former model used to snap her man hamming it up in strong-man poses, certainly seemed to have adapted to the California lifestyle, cruising to the beach in a convertible Corvette.

As they strolled barefoot and arm in arm along the beach where Baywatch was once filmed, the pair’s relationship seemed to be going from strength to strength, and there has been speculation that Macca would announce their engagement at a belated birthday party for him in London this weekend. But while the 60-year-old-rocker has said there is “every chance” he will marry again, his spokesman denied the reports, saying it was “definitely not true”.

Paul has said that he believes his late wife approves of his relationship with the anti-landmine campaigner, who lost the lower part of one of her legs in an accident, and admitted that his new romance hasn’t always been easy on his kids. “It was awkward, yeah, but it’s getting better by the minute,” he says.

Despite recently passing a milestone birthday, the eternally youthful looking member of the Fab Four looked in good shape as he stripped off his shirt to catch a few rays. There was just a hint of a paunch, but mornings spent jogging before heading for the recording studio have obviously paid off.
