David Beckham is set to receive a huge honour after more than two decades in the limelight – and his wife Victoria Beckham will play a special role. The former professional footballer will join a plethora of A-list actors, musicians and sports legends on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week.

David, 51, will be awarded his very own star in a ceremony at Hollywood Boulevard on 12 June. Spice Girls alum and fashion mogul Victoria, who is yet to receive a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, will be right by her husband's side for the milestone moment as one of the guest speakers alongside Hollywood A-lister and long-time friend to the Beckhams, Tom Cruise.

"David Beckham’s recognition with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in the Sports Entertainment category comes at a fitting moment as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup," Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame producer said in a statement via the Walk of Fame website.

"Beckham’s role in elevating soccer’s profile in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment, and global culture make this honor especially meaningful."

How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

David will be the 2,849th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Elvis Presley, as well as athletes like Muhammad Ali and Billie Jean King, who qualified for the Sports Entertainment category. To receive a star, the person must be nominated first in categories that cover work across film, television, radio and theatre.

According to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the person must meet the following criteria: "Professional achievement, longevity in the category of five years or more, contributions to the community and the guarantee that the celebrity will attend the dedication ceremony if selected."

The Hollywood Walk of Fame star is the latest accolade in a list of career honours David has received throughout his more than 20-year career. Last November, David was joined by his wife and his parents, Ted and Sandra, at Windsor Castle to receive a knighthood from King Charles.

"I can't even begin to describe what a special day it is for me today, a boy born in East London, to receive a Knighthood from His Majesty The King," David gushed on Instagram after the ceremony.

"I am truly humbled and so grateful for this honour. I have been fortunate to represent our country and I've always done that with pride," he added.
