David Beckham had the perfect night in on Thursday – complete with an al fresco dinner and £180 bottle of white wine. The retired footballer shared photos of his delicious meal on Instagram, starting with charcuterie, bread and mozzarella cheese and a fresh salad, before tucking into pan-fried fish with sweet potato wedges and vine tomatoes.

But he saved the best for last, rounding off his meal with pizza dough topped with Nutella, and washed down with a glass or two of white wine. The dad-of-four posted a photo of his tipple of choice on Instagram - Pavillon Blanc du Chateau Margaux 2015.

The white wine is described as "extraordinarily pure with blackcurrant and blueberry" flavours. It costs around £180 a bottle, or a case of six bottles costs around £1,050. It is from the same wine producer that made the wine Victoria Beckham and her sister Louise Adams enjoyed on their night out on Wednesday – although the fashion designer opted for a red wine instead of white.

David has spoken previously about his passion for fine food and wine, and admitted he introduced his wife to more expensive tipples as she used to be more partial to "a little bit of Lambrusco". Speaking to ES Magazine in January, the 43-year-old said: "Victoria didn't really drink wine up until very recently so she has all of a sudden discovered my passion. Well, she went through a stage of drinking a nice Blue Nun and a little bit of Lambrusco."

He added: "But now it's changed. I've introduced her to good, decent wine. I love Californian reds. I love the buttery-ness of Burgundy. Montrachet, I love. Cheval Blanc is one of my favourites."
