Gigi Hadid is gearing up to celebrate her 20th birthday on Thursday, but the young model revealed on social media that boyfriend Cody Simpson has already given her the gift she had asked for. In a selfless gesture, Gigi admitted in a series of posts on Twitter that this year she has asked for food shop gift cards that she can pass out to those in need on the street.

"For my bday I asked for @McDonalds (or other food) gift cards to keep in wallet to give to those I pass on the streets of NYC & elsewhere that are in need of a meal," she wrote in the touching message. "I don't always carry cash & it's nice to know it'll be put to good use. "Thanks @CodySimpson for the first batch!!!!" Fans immediately took to social media to praise the blonde beauty for her charitable act, with some noting that it was particularly sweet of Cody to try to fulfil his girlfriend's birthday wish.

The couple have reportedly already been celebrating Gigi's birthday, with a source telling E! News that they had held a "very private" dinner party with friends and family at The Nice Guy in West Hollywood. No doubt the rising star was keen to make the most of a rare night off amidst her hectic work schedule. Not only has she walked for some of the biggest designers during Fashion Week, but she is also currently the face of cosmetics giant Maybelline New York. Earlier this week the American star was spotted posing at a photoshoot in New York for the brand, alongside Victoria's Secret angel Adriana Lima. Gigi revealed earlier this year that she had landed the highly coveted beauty campaign, in a short video shared on her Instagram account. The clip sees the Tommy Hilfiger model answering a quick-fire round of questions before being asked, "Tell us something nobody knows about you." "I'm the new face of Maybelline New York," she replies, beaming at the camera.
