Emma Stone and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini shine on the Cannes red carpet

It was the tale of two trains on Friday evening as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Emma Stone both swept on to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. The international superstars both wore gorgeous gowns, with Emma opting for a metallic Christian Dior gown with a lace overlay.

Emma, 26, who was premiering her new film Irrational Man, from acclaimed director Woody Allen, accessorised with an on-trend '90s choker necklace, while The X Factor judge Cheryl went for a Ralph & Russo backless nude number, with a lace bodice, open cape, and a daring thigh-high split.

Despite showing off a new blonde bob as she arrived at Nice airport on Thursday, Cheryl wore her hair in a sleek up-do, while Emma also sported a chic hairstyle, with a slight '60s bouffant.

Cheryl and her husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini arrived in sunny Cannes the place where they first met 12 months ago - on Thursday, and looked as loved-up as ever as they marked a year together.

The annual film festival has also become the festival of love, with Natalie Portman and her husband Benjamin Millepied causing stir when the low-key couple cuddled up as they stepped back into the spotlight on Wednesday evening.

Charlize Theron and Sean Penn were also unable to keep their hands off each other at Charlize's premiere of her new blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road.

The 68th Cannes Film Festival red carpet has also been awash with the leading ladies of the big screen bringing the glitz and the glamour.

Oscar winners Lupita Nyong'o and Natalie lead the way at Wednesday's opening ceremony with beautiful bright gowns.

Sienna Miller, who is experiencing her first time at the festival as a juror, also showed off her slender figure in a sleek Lanvin royal blue gown with bow detailing and a bright fuschia lip.
