Queen Sonja of Norway has access to an extensive royal tiara collection, but she drew from her personal jewellery archives as she joined King Haakon VIII for a gala dinner for County Governors and State Administrators.
In pictures taken at the Royal Palace of Oslo, the 89-year-old wore a cream tailored dress with long sleeves and a fitted waist, amping up the glamour with her gold and diamond jewellery. She opted for the Modern Gold Tiara, a minimalistic Scandinavian piece given to her as a 60th birthday gift from King Harald V in 1997.
Queen Sonja's 'Wonder Woman' tiara
The sculptural band, which has been compared with Wonder Woman's Amazonium tiara, according to The Royal Watcher, is studded with miniature diamonds climbing up the central peak.
It can be customised to match her outfits, with Sonja often swapping out the central setting to include deep-green tourmaline or golden topaz. Keeping her latest look simple yet impactful, she chose the all-gold finish that complemented her golden blonde curls.
She first debuted the plainer diamond-studded central element of the tiara in 2010 at the Norwegian State Visit to Slovakia. Aside from the headpiece, the parure includes drop earrings, brooches and a choker, which she wore for the most recent dinner.
Fans weigh in on royal tiara
Next to a series of photos shared on the Norwegian royals' official Instagram, the caption read: "Dinner for the governors. His Majesty the King and Queen Sonja received the country's governors for dinner at the palace.
"'Thank you so much for the great effort you make when we visit. You help create good memories for a lot of people. And we could not have done without you,' said King Haakon in his speech.
"The governors are the state's highest representative in the counties and have a special responsibility to ensure that the framework, and content of a royal visit, is taken care of in the best possible way."
Fans rushed to the comments section to compliment Queen Sonja, calling her "stylish" and stating: "Sonja's Crown is beautiful."
