Prime Video established itself as the streamer for romance and action, with Off Campus, Every Year After, Reacher, and Cross all huge hits for the service.
But Prime Video has also canceled several popular shows in recent years, including Jack Ryan, which had reached its natural creative conclusion; Countdown, which ended with a cliffhanger that will never be resolved; and The Wheel of Time, which faced a massive budget-to-viewership problem.
That trend has continued in 2026, with four shows already canceled before the end of Q2, although seven have been renewed – three of which came before their premiere episode had even dropped...

Prime Video canceled Gen V after the second season concluded, despite The Boys spin-off being a critical hit, with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
"While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon," said VCU executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg. "You’ll see them again.
The writing had been on the wall for Gen V, however, as one of its stars, Asa Germann, booked a series regular role on Paramount+’s Frisco King, and the finale saw supes recruited by The Boys’ Annie January (Erin Moriarty) for the resistance against Homelander’s dictatorship.
That battle was a key arc for the show's fifth season , which was also the last for The Boys.

Stargate
Stargate was canceled by Prime before the series had even gone into production.
Martin Gero had worked on both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis as a writer, and was the executive producer and showrunner of the new series
Variety reported that after Prime executives axed the show over concerns that there was limited appeal to people outside of the franchise's loyal fans.
Stargate was a 1994 film directed by Roland Emmerich, and went on to spawn three series — Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe — along with two direct-to-DVD feature films, a short-lived animated show, and a 2018 web series.
The franchise is set around the titular device, built by an ancient intergalactic race of beings that allows for instantaneous travel across vast distances via wormholes that can be "dialed" between any two Stargates on the network.

The Runarounds, created by Outer Banks co-creator Jonas Pate, focused on a band chasing their rock dreams after high school, and was released in 2025 with eight episodes.
Its future remained unclear for months until Prime confirmed the cancellation earlier in 2026.
Similar to Gen V, fans had recognized the likelihood of the news when female lead, Lilah Pate, booked a series regular role on Frisco King for Paramount+ (the same show as Gen V's Asa Germann).

Prime Video officially renewed Young Sherlock for a second season on April 14, 2026.
"Young Sherlock has that rare magic—millions of fans around the world aren’t just watching a detective story, they’re falling in love with the origin of an icon," said Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios.
"Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take him next in Season Two."
The series, which introduces viewers to a young Sherlock Holmes and his origin story, stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin as the titular detective, and Guy will return to direct the first episode of the second season, after directing the first two episodes of season one
The show recorded 678 million minutes of watch time in its first week of release and has a solid 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Prime is also putting the show forward for Emmys contention.

The surprising hit of 2023, Jury Duty was a fascinating and hilarious hidden-camera original concept that followed Ronald Gladden, an unwitting ordinary person who thinks he is taking part in a documentary chronicling the inner workings of the jury system – only every single person he meets, except him, is an actor.
The show returned in 2025 with a new concept, changing the setting from a courtroom to a company retreat in the middle of a corporate takeover.
Season three was confirmed in 2026 by Amazon’s Global Head of TV, Peter Friedlander, although he, understandably, would not give away any details to keep the process secret.

With season four of Reacher coming to screens later in the year, Prime Video has looked at the data and renewed the show for a fifth season; season three commanded 54.6 million viewers globally in its first 19 days, with an impressive 0.5% uptick from season two viewership.
Alan Ritchson stars as the titular Jack Reacher, and season four will follow the 13th book in Child’s series, Gone Tomorrow.
"From Lee Child’s globally beloved novels to its standout on-screen adaptation, Reacher has evolved into a true powerhouse franchise," said Friedlander.
"The series' ability to combine high-octane action with compelling character storytelling continues to resonate with tens of millions of viewers around the world. We’re excited to move forward with a fifth season ahead of Season Four’s debut and to build on this incredible momentum."

Off Campus dropped in May 2026, a 10-part loose adaptation of Elle Kennedy's book The Deal, with season one following the characters of Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli) and Hannah Wells (Ella Bright), while also expanding the world to include characters from Elle's follow-up books.
Prime confirmed the renewal for a second season before the episodes aired, and their faith was justified; the show became Prime's third most-watched debut season ever.
"Off Campus captures the kind of emotionally charged, character-driven storytelling that truly resonates with our global Prime Video audience,” said Friedlander. "We have great confidence in the way Louisa [Levy[ has mastered this adaptation, and we’re excited to give fans even more of the romance, friendship, and heart that define the series."
Season two will see Louisa return as showrunner, and although Garret and Hannah will also return, the focus will pivot to Dean DiLaurentis (Stephen Kalyn) and Allie Hayes (Mika Abdalla).

Bloodaxe
Season one has yet to air, but Prime has high hopes for Bloodaxe, from Michael Hirst, the creator of Vikings.
Set 100 years after the events of Vikings, which concluded in 2020 after six seasons, Bloodaxe follows 10th Century viking warrior Erik Bloodaxe and his wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, as they fight for the throne of Norway.
Season two will begin shooting in Ireland over the summer.
Hirst shared that he is "so proud of the way Bloodaxe has turned out, in terms of its incredible storylines, its powerful invocation of Viking beliefs, its dramatic recreation of the way that Christianity has started to overcome the pagan world, and – not least – the way we use magic realism in an effort to induct the audience into a Viking mind-set".
"Basically, now the cat is out of the bag, we are thrilled that we can soon offer a worldwide audience the chance to re-enter the beautiful Norse world," he added.

Based on James Patterson’s bestselling novels, Cross has become another of Prime Video's hit action-thriller series and will return for a third season. Season one drew 40 million viewers globally in its first 20 days, and became the third most-watched premiere on the service in 2025.
Aldis Hodge stars as the titular detective, Alex Cross, and has been praised for delivering "a definitive portrayal of Alex Cross, anchoring the series with depth, intelligence and heart".
"From the beginning, Cross has captivated audiences with its layered characters, pulse-pounding suspense and emotionally grounded storytelling," said Friedlander.

It was 2001 that the world was introduced to Legally Blonde's Elle Woods, the unstoppable sorority girl who was accepted to Harvard Law just to win back the man she thought was the love of her life.
What? Like it's hard?
Reese Witherspoon broke out as the post-grad student with a love of the color pink, and in 2025 announced a partnership between her production company Hello Sunshine and Prime for the prequel series, Elle.
Lexi Minitree will star as the titular character, and Prime Video has already confirmed a second season; season one premieres on July 1, 2026.
"I think our series’ themes of kindness, authenticity, and believing in yourself will resonate deeply with fans of the original films and new audiences alike," said Reese. "Working with our incredible Hello Sunshine team, Amazon and our visionary writers and directors to bring Elle’s high school journey to life has been a tremendous joy. I can’t wait to share Season One with the world and start rolling cameras on Season Two!"
"Ordering a second season speaks to our belief in the creative vision and the incredible team behind the series, and we’re excited for audiences to experience Elle’s journey starting with Season One," added Friedlander.
