The skincare, fragrance and makeup used by the royals are endlessly intriguing for fans of the family.

From Queen Camilla's perfume of choice (A-lister Amal Clooney told Her Majesty she smells "very good") to King Charles' fragrance, which Prince Harry found 'harsh', it's fun to have an insight into the beauty routines of the royal family – especially when they use products that us mere mortals can afford.

The late Queen Elizabeth II was known for having a beauty collection full of affordable beauty buys, relying on the same edit of soaps and skincare throughout her reign. Let's dive into the most relatable items in her stash…

Queen Elizabeth II relied on a small edit of beauty products

1. Clarins staples

Her Majesty first used Clarins for her coronation in 1953, when she commissioned the brand to design a shade of lipstick to complement her gown – if you can't use your queenly powers for bespoke beauty, what good are they, after all?

It wasn't only Clarins makeup that she rated. To keep her hands in perfect condition for all the handshaking required of her, the late Queen relied on Clarins' Hand and Nail Treatment Cream. At £29 per tube, it's not the most affordable hand cream in the world, but with a royal budget, it likely didn't break the bank.

2. Elizabeth Arden's iconic offering

We already know a little too much about Prince Harry's use of Elizabeth Arden's Eight-Hour Cream, £31 (if you read Spare, you'll know too), but it was also reportedly a constant in Queen Elizabeth II's rotation, too.

With this in mind, it's no surprise Elizabeth Arden held a royal warrant for over 55 years, so it is extremely likely that reports of the Queen being a regular user of the brand's products are true.

King Charles III removed the brand's Royal Warrant when he took over from his mother, but Elizabeth Arden clearly has the royal seal of approval.

3. The timeless bathroom essential

Yardley's London English Lavender Soap, £14 for three, is apparently a stalwart inside the royal palaces, such was the Queen's love of the fresh-smelling bar. The brand has had a royal warrant since the 1920s, when it was appointed Perfumers & Fine Soap Makers to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales by Prince Edward.

An icon in the bathroom world, Yardley's soap is made with shea butter and delivers a soft, frothy lather, leaving a delicate scent in its wake. But Yardley isn't the only soap brand Her Majesty approved of…

4. When life gives you lemons…

Fellow British brand Bronnley is also favoured by the royal family, receiving their third Royal Warrant in 2024, this time awarded by King Charles, following on from one awarded by Queen Elizabeth II back in 1955.

The love affair is mutual, with Bronnley creating collectable sets for royal milestones, including a 1977 Silver Jubilee Almond Soap set in a wooden case and a 2002 Golden Jubilee Perfumed Soap set. We bet the late Queen loved them, but our pick is this brand's Lemon Soap, £8.50. The zesty yellow creation harks back to the shaped soaps of our childhood, but with a luxe touch thanks to the zingy, uplifting scent and nourishing lather.

5. Scent-sational Queen

Her Majesty is also said to have been a fan of fine fragrance brand Floris. Having been given the royal warrant, the perfume house was discreet about which was the royal's personal preference - but since carnations are reported to be her favourite flower, evidence points to White Rose, a floral fragrance with spicy notes of carnation. As for us? We love the Bergamotto Di Positano fragrance, from £35, which is reminiscent of a Mediterranean breeze.
