Victoria Beckham is sunning it up on her yacht in Ibiza and I’ve worked out the SPF 50 she’s taken aboard

If there’s one thing the Beckhams know how to do, it’s holiday in style. Every summer, former footballer David, 51, and fashion designer Victoria, 52, set sail aboard their custom superyacht, reportedly worth an eye-watering £16 million. This year, they’ve been making the most of the Balearic Islands and spotted soaking up the sun in Ibiza and Formentera.

  • Victoria Beckham is currently staying near Ibiza on her custom superyacht
  • I reckon she's using the new Solar Shield SPF 50 by Augustinus Bader to protect her skin
  • She has a close relationship with the owner of the eponymous, stem cell-inspired skincare label

While their yacht is undeniably impressive, it’s something else from the trip I’m focused on: Victoria’s choice of SPF. Paparazzi photos show her sunbathing on the boat in a black bandeau mini dress with an open back, paired with a navy baseball cap. And while these offer some sun protection, I’d wager she’s also relying on The Solar Shield SPF 50 by Augustinus Bader.

Luxury beauty label Augustinus Bader was created by its namesake professor, an expert in stem cell biology and tissue engineering, in 2018. He turned his medical technology into commercial skincare, debuting with its iconic The Cream and catching the attention of plenty of famous faces – including Victoria Beckham herself.

The Solar Shield SPF 50 marks the brand's latest launch and first-ever body sunscreen. And given Posh’s long-standing relationship with the founder and her loyalty to his products, I’m making an educated guess that this is the SPF she chose to bring on her summer sail.

Victoria released makeup products in collaboration with Augustinus Bader last year, including foundation drops and a skincare-infused concealer pen. She also collaborated with the brand (shortly after discovering it) for her AW19 fashion show to give models ‘radiant and glowing skin’ on the runway.

What does The Solar Shield SPF 50 do?

The Solar Shield SPF 50 is a double threat: it combines sun protection with skincare ingredients. Plus, it's said to actively renew cells while working overtime to protect them from UV damage and environmental stressors.

Among the ingredients are wild rosella extract, which helps strengthen the skin barrier, lock in moisture and support skin in extreme conditions, and osmanthus flower extract, which provides antioxidant protection against UV-induced damage while soothing the skin and reducing visible redness.

My review of The Solar Shield SPF 50 by Augustinus Bader

Anyone who knows me knows that, due to my very pale complexion, I tend to avoid direct sunlight altogether. I will always opt to sit in the shade, and while I occasionally flirt with the idea of soaking up a few UV rays, I usually struggle to find a sun protection formula I actually enjoy applying.

I took The Solar Shield SPF 50 to the Amalfi Coast

That was until I discovered The Solar Shield SPF 50. Augustinus Bader has been a steady fixture in my skincare routine for the past year – I use The Rich Cream and The Cleansing Balm everyday – so with a trip to the Amalfi Coast on the agenda, this launch felt perfectly timed.

Arriving hot on the heels of the brand’s Geranium Rose Body Cream (which is deliciously nourishing, but lacks sun protection), this marks Augustinus Bader’s long-awaited debut into body SPF.

I love how nourishing the formula feels

In a nutshell, it kept my fair skin completely burn-free over several hours of direct sunlight on the beach. I can also vouch for it being clinically proven to maintain its SPF 50 protection even after contact with sand.

What I’ve majorly fallen in love with is how nourishing the formula feels. It soothed the irritated keratosis pilaris-ridden skin on my arms, and kept my body feeling hydrated hours after application. Plus, it’s Hawaiian Reef Bill Compliant – formulated without octinoxate, oxybenzone or octocrylene – so I was wearing it in the sea, happy to know I’m not upsetting any marine ecosystems.
