Victoria Beckham's makeup look has remained the same for many years. The wife of former Manchester United footballer David Beckham can always be relied on to sport a flawless, natural base, defined brows, brown eyeshadow, and a nude lip.

So you can imagine our surprise when she sported a bold red lip at the weekend, something she does very rarely. The 52-year-old makeup and fashion mogul was promoting her eponymous beauty brand's latest drop, 'Rouge Victoria' - a luxurious collection of bold demi-matte reds.

Taking to Instagram, the mother of Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper took a selection of selfies and videos of her favourite 'House Red', which was quite the directional look.

Victoria remarked that the lipstick was both hydrating and nourishing, having found that many she had tested before were drying on the skin. Putting the lip colour to the test, she even ate on camera, showing that the pigment didn't budge.

Red lipstick - a surprisingly anti-ageing makeup hack

Red lipstick can make teeth appear whiter, as well as enhancing the skin's natural surface - the bold shade is seen as an almost instant facelift even without the needles.

A great way to sport a red lip is to take Victoria's lead and keep the rest of your makeup neutral. If you go for a red lip, big lashes, a smoky eye, and lots of blush, it can be ageing and make your face appear painted and overdone. Keep everything stripped back and simple - let your lips do the talking, quite literally.

Red lipstick is nearly always pigmented; it will cling to every part of your pout, which can be unforgiving. So, you must create a great base for the colour by making sure the lips' texture is smooth before you apply.

This can be achieved by using a lip scrub, like the Tatcha 'Kissu' offering, which gently buffs away flakiness, and finishing with a lip balm loaded with softening agents, such as the Jo Malone London 'Vitamin E Lip Conditioner'.

Many makeup artists will advise you to use a lip brush to apply red lipstick for extra care, but Victoria specified in her latest look that she doesn't like to use a liner with her red lipstick. We can all be trusted to apply straight from the bullet, as long as we are precise and, above all, concentrate, Posh Spice style.
