Marisa Tomei looks like she hasn't aged a day since the 1992 release of her Oscar-winning movie My Cousin Vinny – and the actress has now revealed the secret to her ageless appearance.
"I like a lot of sleep," the 61-year-old award-winning star shared, adding that she also favors "functional movement, like walking" in nature over a gym membership.
What is functional movement?
Functional movement is a term that describes exercise and training based on multi-joint movement patterns that mirror how the body moves in the real world, instead of isolated individual muscles routines.
Exercises can include squatting, lunging, pushing, and pulling, all of which focus on patterns and require core muscle stabilization.
Marisa's motto
The Spider-Man star has launched a range of supplements called Terra Mare and has admitted it was important to keep the brand simple so that it "wasn’t going to create another cycle of chasing perfectionism."
"You don’t have to really think about it," she told People magazine. "I would say that’s been a big part of my life—slowing down, remembering simplicity, and letting go of perfectionism."
Meditation practices
Marisa grew up in Brooklyn with her mom, an English teacher, and her dad, a trial lawyer.
"Shared laughter, shared insights, being together and in tune with one another is grounded in science—these are actually things our bodies respond to and lower our stress levels," she added.
She previously revealed that as a teenager she was interested in meditation and grounding, telling Vogue that those practices helped her to take care of her emotional and physical health.
"Moving meditation, like dance meditation, makes me feel at home in my skin; it helps me on a spiritual, mental, and, ultimately, physical level. I still hike and do calisthenics and yoga from time to time, but the cornerstone of it all is the inner stuff," she said.
A second act
Marisa began acting at 19 with a two-year stint in the soap opera As the World Turns, and the first season of the sitcom A Different World in 1987. She also appeared in the Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt romcom What Women Want in 2000, Ryan Gosling's Crazy, Stupid, Love in 2011, and has portrayed May Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2016, recently reprising the role in 2026's Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Up next, Marisa will appear alongside Liam Neeson in The Mongoose and with Sam Rockwell in horror film Hellhound.
She also has a starring role in the second season of War; the first season will premiere on HBO Max on October 1, 2026.
