Congratulations are in order for Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black, who confirmed the birth of their second child in a surprise announcement on Wednesday.

The professional diver, 28, and his husband, 48, shared the unexpected news in The Times on 5 April, despite not previously revealing they were expecting another child. The couple's second son, named Phoenix Rose, was born on 28 March via surrogate.

Tom and Dustin's unique moniker for their son originates from Greek mythology. It typically refers to an immortal bird, but can also mean a person or thing regarded as uniquely remarkable in some respect. How sweet!

The Olympic gold medalist is already a doting father to son Robert Ray (Robbie), who he welcomed via surrogate in 2018 with his husband Dustin. Speaking exclusively to HELLO! at The Fashion Awards last year, Tom gushed over his now five-year-old son, describing him as his "little buddy".

"He's so amazing. He's three and a half now, coming up four. It's so special to have a little buddy that you can just take with you to do things and see things through a new set of eyes", said Tom. "I'm loving doing things I would have never been able to do without our son - things that perhaps may look a bit weird doing as an adult - but if I take my little buddy along I can get away with anything!"

When asked if Tom expects his son to follow in his diving footsteps, the Olympian replied: "If he wants to get involved in sport and I'll support him, but if he wants to do music, or be creative - whatever he wants to do I'll support him! At the moment he just loves trucks, space, and dinosaurs, so that's where we're at."

Tom and Dustin's son Robbie is fondly named in memory of Tom's late father, Rob Daley, who died in 2011 at the age of 40.

The couple met at a mutual friends' dinner in Los Angeles in 2013 and soon began dating. "I worried I was in real (good) trouble from the first moment we spoke. I was right," the Oscar-winning screenwriter shared on his Instagram.

Shortly after, Tom came out as gay on his YouTube channel and revealed he had a boyfriend. Dustin later told Out magazine in 2016 that it was "love at first sight". They married in May 2017 at a romantic Shakespeare-themed ceremony at Bovey Castle in Devon.
