With films like Pretty Woman and Primal Fear in his filmography and a career in Hollywood spanning five decades, Richard Gere is no stranger to the limelight. But when it comes to his blended family, the actor keeps a low-profile.
Richard and his wife Alejandra Silva are notoriously private when it comes to their family life, sharing only the occasional photo of their two sons.
The actor has often expressed what being a dad means to him, and while a glittering movie career is significant, his family means everything. When he fathered his first child, Homer, in 2000, Richard called fatherhood "enormously satisfying". He then went on to have two more children with his second wife Alejandra.

Homer James Jigme Gere, 26
Homer made Richard a first-time father when he was born on 6 February 2000 in New York City. Richard shares Homer with his second wife, former Bond girl Carey Lowell, and their son's name honors both of them.
Richard's father was called Homer and Carey's dad had the middle name James. His third name means fearless in Tibetan and is a nod to Richard's Buddhist background.
© Getty Images"Homer is the joy of my life," he said when the little boy was two, adding that he was "very smart," and "very funny". He and Carey raised Homer in New York where he attended Tarrytown's private Hackley School.
After 18 years together, including 11 years married, Carey filed for divorce from Richard in 2012. It was reported that Carey preferred a more active social life, while Richard favored a quiet one.
Despite their breakup, they continued to co-parent Homer. Richard said he would always ensure his work didn't take him away from home for too long.

"So, if I have to be away for long, I talk to him about it, and if there is a problem, I don't take up the project. And I have done that. Your family is more important than anything."
Homer has made a few red carpet appearances alongside his father over the years.
Richard previously revealed Homer was eager to follow in his footsteps and told Vanity Fair Spain in 2024: "As it happens, he just started acting too. He has suddenly become interested and seems to enjoy it. He's been writing and directing little movies, so we have this new thing in common."
Homer made his major television debut in the third season of HBO's Euphoria this year. Speaking to ExtraTV, Richard revealed that Homer had a degree in visual arts and was "on a track" for psychology. He explained: "He started making student films with friends and he was acting them, writing them, directing and just for fun and he started showing me what he was doing and other people wanted to work him, other universities wanted to work with him and… one thing led to another very quickly."

"If he wants it, I'm sure he's gonna have a wonderful career. But he's 26 years old and he doesn't have to make those kind of choices at this point," he said, adding that there is a "whole other level of communication between he and I now."

© InstagramAlmost 20 years after welcoming Homer, Richard and his third wife, Spanish publicist Alejandra, announced they were expecting their first child together.
Richard was 69 years old when their son, Alexander, came into the world in February 2019. Not that he has any qualms about being an older dad, telling the Sunday Times Magazine: "No not all," when he was asked if had any concerns about fatherhood at his age.
The couple share occasional photos of Alexander but always obscure his face.
Richard is also a stepfather to Alejandra's son, Albert, 11, from a previous relationship. The family relocated to Alejandra's native Spain in 2024, but moved back to the US where they are now enjoying a quiet, happy family life. "I wouldn't rule it out at all," Alejandra recently told HELLO!'s sister brand ¡HOLA! about whether they would consider returning to Spain.
"Right now, we are very focused on the children and supporting them where they need it most, but Spain will always be in our plans," she said.

Richard and Alejandra announced she was pregnant again, nine months after Alexander's birthday. Their second son James was born in April 2020 and has also remained out of the spotlight like his sibling.
In the photos they have shared - again with his face obscured - there's no denying he's a cutie too.
Richard and Alejandra appear to be hands-on parents as they showcase rare snapshots of their adventures and celebrations.
© InstagramSpeaking to HELLO! in November 2025, the couple opened up about how they draw on Buddhism to help them solve family issues. When asked how their shared faith influences their parenting, Richard replied: "Well, interesting you should bring that up, because we were just having a drama about one of our kids. [Alejandra] is always really good with [saying]: 'OK, I know I want to strangle you right now, but I’m going to take a deep breath and we’re going to talk through this. OK, now what’s going on? I'd like to know what are you feeling.'"
"Like Richard has said before, there is a lot of patience that is brought into the equation," Alejandra said. "Introducing the kids to Buddhism and what it means is important."
Richard added: "She’s an incredible mother that way. I’ve actually learnt how to be a better father by watching her."
It's been a busy few years for the loved-up couple, who tied the knot in April 2018. The pair said their vows in a romantic ceremony held on Richard's ranch outside New York City and they couldn't have seemed happier. Sharing their wedding photos with HELLO!, Alejandra said at the time: "I feel like I'm in a true fairytale. Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world."
