George and Amal Clooney are protective parents who have chosen to raise their children, Alexander and Ella, nine, away from the spotlight in the French countryside.
After relocating from America, George, 65, opened up about his family's rural lifestyle and how he has imposed one crucial rule on his twins.
During an interview with The Guardian in 2025, the Jay Kelly star confessed he was teaching Alexander and Ella to be self-sufficient and help out in the grounds of their home. One such example was watching their famous father use a pair of Amal's stockings to fix a fan belt, with George explaining: "It’s important to me that they can survive."
Candid comments on fatherhood
Earlier in the same interview, he had opened up about being an older father. George was 56 when his kids were born in 2017, after he admitted he hadn't planned to start a family and didn't see children in his future until marrying Amal in 2014.
Chatting with the New York Times, George admitted candidly: "I wasn't really in the market for being a dad. Then I met Amal and we fell in love." He added: "I have to say that, after that, everything made sense."
Commenting on raising his kids in his 60s, he said: "The only thing I feel lucky about is that I’m so much older that the idea that my son would be compared to me is pretty unlikely, because by the time he actually will have done anything, I’m gonna be gumming my bread."
French home
Ocean's 11 star George and human rights barrister Amal purchased their French chateau near the village of Brignoles in the south of France for $8.3 million in 2021. Known as Domaine du Canadel, the former winery sits on 425 acres of land and features a pool, tennis courts and a guest house.
It offers the A-listers the best chance at living a "normal life" with their kids, away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
