With a history stretching back for centuries, it's unsurprising that there are many ghost stories involving royal residences, and this includes the nursery room that Prince Louis grew up in.
Although the young royal now lives in Forest Lodge with his family, when he lived at Kensington Palace, he reportedly wasn't the only being staying in his old nursery.
The room is said to be haunted by the ghost of Peter the Wild Boy, a feral child who was brought over to Britain in 1726. Peter was first discovered by King George I and was captured on the orders of Princess Caroline of Ansbach.
While many royals at the time were fascinated by his lifestyle, Caroline attempted on numerous occasions to teach him how to read and write, although all of these efforts were unsuccessful.
A painting of the child was commissioned, and it still hangs on the east wall of the King's Staircase in Kensington Palace.
Peter lived into his 70s, but passed away in February 1785. He was subsequently buried at St Mary's Church, Northchurch, Hertfordshire, with his gravestone carrying the inscription: "Peter the Wild Boy."
Today, it's believed that Peter had the chromosomal disorder Pitt–Hopkins syndrome. The condition causes developmental disorders and leaves people with moderate to severe learning difficulties. Physically, people with the condition often have a short stature, coarse hair and thick lips, all of which Peter possessed.
Although the family have now moved away, they haven't entirely left the spirit world behind. Herne the Hunter is said to frequent Windsor Great Park, where Forest Lodge is located. Reports differ as to whether the spirit is a guardian of the forest or a malevolent entity known to attack livestock.
The local Windsor website explains the tale: "His ghost still appears wearing the antlers of a stag, riding a phantom black stallion at the head of a pack of black hounds. He appears to warn of times of trouble and gallops through Windsor Great Park only to disappear into thin air."
How did Prince Louis spend Halloween?
Prince Louis likely spent Halloween this year with his family, including his elder brother, Prince George, who is currently on his half-term break from Eton College.
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared the most adorable photo of their youngest child on the spookiest day of the year, with the picture taken when the young prince was just one.
In the image, Louis looked happier than ever as he played with a large pumpkin while wearing a beautiful blue raincoat in Norfolk. "Happy Halloween! [Pumpkin emoji]. Prince Louis, aged one, photographed by The Princess of Wales," a caption read on the post.
Royal fans were quick to note how much Louis resembled his older brother, with one follower commenting: "Oh my goodness I could have sworn that was Prince George! What a lovely surprise. Happy Halloween!" A second user added: "OMG I thought that was George! Happy Halloween!"
