British-born Princess Alexandra of Denmark, herself the mother of a small child, enjoyed a day out visiting a children’s summer camp in the small Danish town of Mellerup recently. Smiling and waving, Prince Joachim’s wife was greeted at the centre with a bouquet of flowers and proceeded to chat animatedly with the children at the Red Cross organised camp.

Wearing a pretty fuchsia jacket and trouser ensemble the elegant princess, who is of Asian European descent, spent a pleasant day among the Danish children - just some of many who come year after year to enjoy their summer holidays.

Alexandra Manley, the daughter of Richard Nigel Manley and Christa Novotny, married Prince Joachim of Denmark in 1995. Now fully integrated into the Danish way of life, she has proved one of the most popular members of the royal family. In 1999 a baby boy, Nicolai, was born to Alexandra and her husband, making a grandmother of Denmark’s Queen Margrethe.

In May the young couple were seen out at the Legoland theme park with their son although this time, little Nicolai stayed at home.
