Royal news RECAP: Duchess Sophie joins Queen Camilla for special occasion, and more

Happy Wednesday, royal watchers! It's a busy day in the British royal calendar today, with Prince William, Duchess Sophie and the Princess Royal all set for solo engagement across the day. 

Prince William will attend the Tusk Trust Awards at the Savoy, and hand out awards, while the Duchess of Edinburgh will be out in Oxford visiting Windale Community Hub, RAW Workshop and Ronald McDonald House.

Meanwhile, Princess Anne will open the 'Engine as a Weapon' 2025 Conference in Portsmouth, and later will attend the Annual General Meeting and Discussion Dinner at The Institution of Civil Engineers in London.

Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece made a glamorous appearance at the unveiling of the Claridge's Christmas Tree at Claridge's Hotel last night, stunning in a gorgeous metallic silver gown, accessorising with a necklace and pair of earrings from Tiffany & Co.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has been praised for "shining a light" on the work around women, peace and scrutiny by the UK's Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper. Prince Harry and six others are bringing a legal action against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), and the case is due to return to the High Court today for a pre-trial hearing.

The group includes Sir Elton John, his husband David Furnish and Liz Hurley, all of whom allege that ANL carried out or commissioned unlawful activities, such as hiring private investigators to place listening devices inside cars and accessing private phone conversations. ANL denies the allegations.

The trial is expected to begin in January.

As Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to leave Royal Lodge behind, it is currently believed that his late mother's pet corgis might be moving with him to Sandringham. However, there is a potential issue on the estate that has been known to have caused Seasonal Canine Illness SCI) in the past among dogs. Read all about it here.

The King will appear on a special Christmas edition of BBC Radio 4's This Natural Life, hosted by Martha Kearney, where he will speak about his passion for the environment.

The festive episode, which will air on 23 December, will bring listeners to Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, the headquarters of the King's Foundation charity.

Martha said: "It was great to see the King so relaxed in a place which means so much to him and where he puts his philosophy of nature into practice."

The Duchess of Edinburgh has embraced the power suit today, stepping out in a check two-piece for a RAW Workshop in Oxford. It appears to be a recycled Vince outfit that she first wore in 2024, but this time she's teamed it with a seasonal burgundy layer. Terrific tailoring!

Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia have welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Budenbender to Spain with a special ceremony in Madrid. Always keen to make a fashion statement, Letizia proved capes are back on the agenda. A chic black option with a fur collar makes it oh-so glam and she wore it over a red dress. 

Prince Edward attended an event yesterday to mark his brother, King Charles' birthday and he was snapped making a very animated expression as he sliced up a cake. 

Princess Diana was known for pushing the boundaries of fashion with her iconic looks, and on this very day in 1982 she gave everyone a lesson in colour clashing. During a visit to Wrexham, the royal was spotted in a statement red coat designed by Bellville Sassoon and a blue John Boyd hat.

Earlier we saw Queen Letizia work a stylish black cape and fresh pictures reveal the striking red dress she was wearing underneath. Red really is her colour!

To mark the 35th Anniversary of Independence in Antigua and Barbuda and the 50th Anniversary of Independence in Barbados and Guyana, Prince Harry visited the Caribbean in 2016. King Charles' son greeted a young boy called Jyasi Junior and even gave him tickles as he visited a Turtle Conservation Project on the seventh day of his official visit.

It's Thanksgiving week in the US, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have road tiepped foen to Los Angeles to help out at a kitchen providing food to those in need.

Meghan and Harry prepared meals at the Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles (OBKLA), a community-run non-profit kitchen, which prepares and distributes meals for people in the city experiencing hardship.

King Charles has shown on numerous occasions that he always enjoys the opportunity to show off his dance moves, so I love this new unearthd footage of the King dancing back in the 1980s when he was still the Prince of Wales.

I love this tidbit: William met with John Cleese and Ronnie Wood ahead of the ceremony, and told Monty Python star THat his three children had recently started watching the iconic series, Fawlty Towers.

I am now picturing Prince Louis walking around the home screaming: "BASIL!" 

As well as Zara, William's cousins on his mother's side, Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza Spencer, looked glam as they arrived at the event.

Flora Vesterberg, the granddaughter of Princess Alexnadra of Kent, recently celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary with her husband, Timothy Vesterberg, with a lavish celebration at an art museum on the Stockholm archipelago.

On the agenda today, we have The Princess of Wales who will be making a special visit to children’s mental health charity Anna Freud, of which she is Patron, to discuss the vital role of relationships and connection in shaping babies, children and young people’s future life outcomes. Her Royal Highness’ visit comes as The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood launches a new project with Anna Freud to enhance the skills of health visitors to support early social and emotional development.

Overseas, we have King Felipe and Queen Letizia continuing to host the President and First Lady of Germany in a State Visit to Spain.

Princess Anne is at the AGM of Riding for the Disabled Association and will also host a Christmas tea party for The Not Forgotten Association at St. James's Palace.
