Princes William and Harry would be 'horrified and furious' about Earl Spencer’s book, royal expert claims

Prince William and Prince Harry will be feeling "horrified and furious" following the publication of Charles Spencer's new book, a royal expert has claimed. 

Speaking on the live recording of HELLO!'s A Right Royal Podcast filmed at Quaglino's, Ingrid Seward said that the Earl's comments regarding King Charles will not have gone down well with his sons.

Ingrid, who is the author of the new book, Catherine & Diana, told us: "I would think that they're also absolutely horrified that their uncle should say something like that about their father. You know, he's their father.

"I think they would be absolutely horrified and furious."

Earl Spencer's memoir about Princess Diana, Swan Song: Diana, my Sister, was published on Tuesday to much controversy. 

Among the claims in the book were allegations that the then-Prince Charles acted "giddily elated" following his ex-wife's untimely death in a car crash in 1997, and told the Earl: "We'll forget her soon enough."

Ingrid explained that Diana herself would have been disappointed by the book's release. 

She said: "And as for Diana, I mean, it's the last thing in the world she would ever want is for anyone to put her husband down. She could, but no one else can."

Earl Spencer has said that the intention of the book was to "celebrate" his sister, not provide a "hit piece on the King". 

He told People Magazine that Harry is "completely fine" with the book, and only checked that there was nothing "embarrassing" in it. 

The Earl admitted to "concern" about how William and Harry would feel about his portrayal of their father, but said: "I'm not in any way compromising their privacy at all."

After its publication on Tuesday, broadcaster Piers Morgan threatened to take legal action against Charles Spencer over a "bald-faced" lie that described a "rude" interaction before Diana's funeral. 

The Earl apologised for an "error" in the book about the dates Piers edited The Mirror.
