The Prince of Wales has reminisced about a part-time job he had as a young boy selling CDs from a "dodgy car boot sale".

William spoke about helping out at a country fair when a former customer reminded him of his efforts as he visited Skenfrith, a Welsh village, to learn about its flood defences on Thursday.

Rob and Helen Wyatt took the prince down memory lane after they chatted with him about how their family has endured four major floods in six years at the settlement in Monmouthshire.

"First time I met you, you were this high," Rob said, holding up his hand waist high. "In Glanusk Estate – you sold me a CD from a bric-a-brac stall."

William laughed and replied: "Dodgy car boot sale, yes, I remember that."

Rob joked: "Still doing that?" and the future King, 44, replied: "No, I don’t sell… it’s dried up a bit that one, perhaps I should reopen it."

Helen added that they could not remember the title of the CD, and the Prince confessed: "I got up to a lot… we had some fun round there."

Prince William and Prince Harry's time with their nanny

Glanusk Estate near Crickhowell is the family home of William’s former nanny Tiggy Legge-Bourke, now known as Alexandra Pettifer, and is the venue of the popular Green Man Festival.

Ms Pettifer cared for the prince and his brother, the Duke of Sussex, for much of the 1990s.  She retired in 1999 when she married former British Army

Her late mother was Dame Shan Legge-Bourke, a former Lord Lieutenant of Powys for 20 years until she retired from the role in 2018.

In 2018, Prince Harry reportedly took his new wife, Meghan Markle, to meet Tiggy, as she was a "significant person" in his life and looked after him when Princess Diana died.

A source told HELLO! at the time: "Harry couldn't wait to introduce Meghan to Tiggy. Although the two women are very different, they got on famously."

The insider added: "She's a very significant person in Harry’s life, almost like a mother figure, as she looked after Harry when Princess Diana died."

Reports have even suggested that Tiggy was chosen as a godmother for Princess Lilibet in 2021, though this has never been confirmed. The beloved nanny was also reportedly a guest at Prince Archie's christening in 2019.

Prince William's busy week as he visits Wales

On Thursday, Prince William met villagers in Skenfirth to talk about the approaches needed to tackle extreme flooding in the region.

He later met representatives from environmental charity Stump Up for Trees at Great Tre-Rhew Farm in Monmouthshire.

William joined volunteers harvesting seeds from a field maple tree and planted a sessile oak tree – designated as the national tree of Wales.

To access the trees, William had to climb over a barbed wire fence and used a small step – joking that he did not want to rip his trousers.

At the end of the conversation, William discussed his enjoyment of cider – which is made on the farm.

"He said, 'one pint a day keeps the doctor away'," Dr Jenny Knight, the director of Stump Up for Trees, said.

On Tuesday, the royal joined his wife, the Princess of Wales, for a trip to the Leeds Rhinos and surprised Sir Kevin Sinfield, who is raising money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities.
