King Charles III ascended to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022

Following the death of her father, George VI, in February 1952, Elizabeth II became Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms. Crowned in 1953, Elizabeth ruled for over 70 years before her death in September 2022. From then, her son King Charles III has been the House of Windsor's reigning monarch.

Latest developments

In April 2011, Prince William married Kate Middleton. Now the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate share three children together: George, born 22 July 2013; Charlotte, born 2 May 2015; and Louis, born 23 April 2018. George is now second in line to the throne after his father.

Zara Phillips married Mike Tindall in July 2011. The pair now share three children: Mia, born 17 January 2014; Lena, born 18 June 2018; and Lucas, born 21 March 2021.

Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn had a second child, Isla, on 29 March 2021. The couple announced their separation in 2019, and finalized their divorce in June 2021.

In January 2018, Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank. They share two children: August, born 9 February 2021; and Ernest, born 30 May 2023. Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020. They share a daughter, Sienna, who was born 18 September 2021.

In May 2018, Prince Harry married Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex later stepped down from their roles as working royals in January 2020. The couple share two children: Archie, born 6 May 2019; and Lilibet, born 4 June 2021.

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth II's constant companion died 9 April 2021. His funeral was held 17 April, with restrictions based on the current COVID-19 regulations being followed.

Queen Elizabeth II died on 8 September 2022, at the age of 96. Her state funeral was held on 19 September. Her son Charles was crowned King at his coronation on 6 May 2023.
